The trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con for the upcoming CBS All-Access streaming series Star Trek: Picard showed retired Federation officer Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) living out his golden years at his family’s vineyard on Earth in France’s La Barre region. And there was even a close-up of the Picard family wine, bottles of which SDCC attendees got to see up close at the Star Trek Universe booth.
Now, the Picard wine is available for purchase online!
Wines That Rock has just introduced Star Trek Wines, a collection of special vintages inspired by the Star Trek universe, which includes a 2016 Chateau Picard Cru Bourgeois from Bordeaux, France, as well as a Special Reserve United Federation of Planets Old Vine Zinfandel from Sonoma County, CA.
According to StarTrek.com, Chateau Picard was already actually an award-winning, multi-generational vineyard in the Bordeaux region of France that existed long before the creation of the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series and its captain, Jean-Luc Picard. So Wines That Rock teamed up with the family vineyard for the Chateau Picard Bordeaux.
Wines that Rock has joined forces with the actual Chateau Picard vineyard to introduce the 2016 Chateau Picard Bordeaux, which is an 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot blend that is subtly smoky and spicy with a bright, fresh, clean-tasting style. The wine spends 14 months in oak, 70% seasoned and 30% new.
For this release, Wines That Rock worked with the family vineyard to create the limited-edition wine with Jean-Luc Picard’s family label on it.
Along with the Picard vintage will be a United Federation of Planets wine, a 2017 Old Vine Zinfandel from across the Dry Creek & Russian River Valleys in Sonoma County, CA. Per the company, it is “a blend of 87% Zinfandel, 12% Petit Sirah and 1% Syrah, it boasts aromatics of concentrated strawberry, blackberry and plum preserves with a chewy-layered mid-palate filled with hints of white peppercorn, sweet red and black fruit.”
Wines that Rock will be offering the wines as an initial 1701 two-bottle combo pack that includes a numbered, limited edition of the United Federation of Planets Special Reserve, and the first 1701 collectors will also have priority notices on all future releases. (1701 being the identification number of the starship Enterprise in the Star Trek universe.) The wines will also be at Star Trek Las Vegas convention at the Rio Hotel & Suites in Las Vegas July 31 to August 4, 2019, and online at startrekwines.com.
Star Trek: Picard comes to CBS All-Access in 2020 and stars Patrick Stewart as his character from the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series and movies, along with several other returning faces from the Star Trek universe.
Also, CBS and Paramount announced yesterday the Star Trek Picard Movie & TV Collection, which contains all four TNG movies as well as two feature-length TNG episodes centering on Jean-Luc Picard. The Blu-ray box set will be released on October 15, 2019 in the United States.
