Music Break: Listen To The Entire ‘Pacific Rim’ Soundtrack; Hear The Canceled Apocalypse

Sergio Grisanti's Pacific Rim Fanfix poster

The coming of Pacific Rim‘s release is almost upon us. By ‘us’ I mean thousands of nerds chomping at the bit to see Guillermo del Toro‘s latest opus: Giant robot exo-suits bashing the living hell of giant extra-dimensional sea monsters invading the Earth. But something is missing.

“What kind of music goes with titanic human-powered robots fighting kaiju invaders from the briney deep?” you ask.

Well, I’ll tell you. This year’s blockbuster film soundtrack is powered by Ramin Djawadi. Some of his previous works include the first Iron Man and Clash of the Titans movies. Keen listeners will also know Djawadi from a little HBO series called Game of Thrones. If you haven’t listened to any of the Thrones scores yet, I suggest you get on that post haste. Right after Pacific Rim has a go at your ear holes, of course.

Now take a break from Pacific Rim‘s intense visual campaign and have a listen to all of its soundtrack goodness below the cut. Hold on a sec. As an extra bonus I’ve dropped a look at a poster from IMAX’s new Fanfix poster series. The poster was created by artist Sergio Grisanti. You can experience both below.

Music Break: Listen To Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ Then Go Out and Buy It Right Now!

Daft Punk album Random Access Memories

Daft Punk‘s album Random Access Memories dropped yesterday. The key word for this album is funk. Disco funk, that is.

There was a lot of teasing for their new album that was 8 years in the making. Pseudo leaks permeated the internet. One leak caused Trace Dominguez from DNews channel to dance in a loop for about a minute. Daft Punk does strange things to people.

Then “Get Lucky” was released unto the radio waves and I swear it was set to play on repeat until the apocalypse came around. But I was okay with it. The jam is *that* good.

Video Mashup: Neil Gaiman’s Speech & Zen Pencils Comic Come Together To “Make Good Art”

Promo image for Neil Gaiman & Zen Pencils 'Make Good Art'

What happens when you take Neil Gaiman‘s 2012 commencement speech and the Zen Pencils comic of a tiny bit of that speech? A video mashup happens, my friends. This is the internet after all. Drop below the cut to watch the video and read the tale of how I came to make it. It’s alright if you skim the tale and watch the video. I won’t judge.

Neil Gaiman is a prolific writer of fantasy, science fiction, poetry, and life. He became a beloved writer of mine *mumble mumble* years ago. Amazingly, it wasn’t love at first sight. I tried The Sandman Vol. 1: Preludes & Nocturnes and barely got past the first issue. What can I say. I was younger and still hung up on superhero comics. That’s not a bad place to start but it’s not a place one should stay forever, I think. After a year I gave Mr Gaiman a second try and jumped to The Sandman Vol. 4: Season of Mists. The key to Hell segment of Morpheus’ five year journey in Vertigo comics. That was my key to Gaiman’s pantheon of works. I was hooked on fairy tales, ancient myths and, oddly enough, religion in a brand new way.

DVD Review: Marvel Knights: Inhumans

Marvel Knights: Inhumans DVD coverMarvel Knights: Inhumans
DVD
Directed by Marvel
Shout! Factory
Rated: Not rated
Release Date: April 23, 2013

In Attilan, no one can, or should, hear Black Bolt scream.

The Marvel Knights: Inhumans movie has been released. It is an adaptation of the 12 issue Marvel Knights comic written by Paul Jenkins with art by Jae Lee. Come ponder with me the reasoning of the king of the Inhumans, Black Bolt, as he navigates the politics of humans and near gods.

This Shout! Factory release is a motion comic. I can’t say that I was entirely pleased by that prospect. A lot of motion comics take away from the internal experience of reading comics. And the limited motion does no favors to the animation genre. For a long time, the motion comic did nothing for me. Then the Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D., Iron Man: Extremis, and the Astonishing X-Men: Gifted series were released and changed my opinion of this new medium to a more positive outlook. That is when I figured out subtlety is the key to a good motion comic execution.

How does the Inhumans movie measure up in this bold new genre? Have a look below the jump to find out.
