The second in the new line of Boondock Saints comics, In Nomine Patris, is the beginning of the secret history of Il Duce. This to me is a great way to kick off a serious stint in the comic line for the saints. It introduces all the characters and a lot about the history of their “business” without prior knowledge needed. This series does a great job in treating it like every issue can be someone’s first issue. Basically in both issues we learn how Il Duce becomes a vigilante and why he kept it up throughout his entire life. We also learn how he got his vest and we learn it all through Connor and Murphy’s eyes. The story is great and very interesting. I really enjoyed reading it. There are a few storytelling issues here and there, but it is more of a layout issue than a script issue. It is very hard to tell where we are in the story because of the jumps between past, present, and future. Something that would help is different times of day for each setting so there would be a more distinct coloring for each one. But that is just a minor issue which is great for Troy Duffy‘s second and third comic.

Thor fans rejoice! We have another ongoing series for Thor just in time for the movie hype to build it up.
The new Astonishing Thor mini-series will debut in November, from the creative team of creators Rob Rodi and Mike Choi with covers by Esad Ribic. Will it be important to the Thor line up? Especially with the over saturation happening with both Thor and Captain America? There has already been an Ultimate Thor announced as well as a Thor/Iron Man series, so is this too much? Shown below is Marvel‘s press release announcing the new series.

 Supernatural: The Unholy Cause
Paperback
By Joe Schreiber
Titan Books
Release Date: May 4, 2010
So now that the Season 5 finale of Supernatural has passed, we have some time before we are going to see Sam and Dean get into trouble again in the new season. What better to do with that time than read a book of one of their crazy adventures? Surprisingly, I can’t think of anything better. So Joe Schreiber, author of Star Wars: Death Troopers, Chasing the Dead, Eat the Dark, and No Doors, No Windows, gives it a shot with Supernatural: The Unholy Cause. First of all I didn’t pick up on the Supernatural “bug” until a few months and went back and watched the entire series in a couple of weeks. I immediately loved the show and all of the characters. All that being said there is definitely a formula to the adventures of Sam and Dean and this book definitely captures the feeling of an episode of the show. Basically Sam and Dean start investigating a weird murder involving Civil War re-enactors and prop weapons. This obviously leads to trouble when the demons involved decide that Sam and Dean need to be taken care of. The story definitely seems to be a lot more serious than some of the others that have been told by dealing with some of the very important overarching themes especially when dealing with Sam’s predicament.

 Revolver
Hardcover
By Matt Kindt
Vertigo Comics
Release Date July 14, 2010
Are you looking for the next Asterios Polyp, I Kill Giants, or Essex County to enjoy? Well I found that book for you and it’s called Revolver. Revolver comes to you from the acclaimed author of 3 Story: The Secret History of the Giant Man and Super Spy: The Lost Dossiers, Matt Kindt. If you haven’t read anything by Kindt, then you should definitely check something out. Kindt is one of my favorite authors and is great with creator-owned material. Revolver is an original graphic novel about a character named Sam whose life is somehow split into two different realities. One life is normal and filled with routine, while the other is set in a post-apocalyptic world where he has to fight to survive. One of the most interesting parts of the story is how Sam deals with the worlds and how his psyche deals with it as well. The story definitely has a lot of twists and turns and I definitely don’t want to spoil the book for anyone by revealing any further details.
