Adam WarRock
The War For Infinity
Silver Age Records & Marketless Music
Release Date: October 7, 2010
Eugene Ahn, comic book fan and podcast host, has created a hip-hop alter ego named Adam WarRock. On WarRock’s debut album, The War For Infinity, listeners are treated to an “event” comic book story in musical form. On the first track, “I Am Him,” we are learn the origin story of Adam WarRock. Adam WarRock created a perfect society with his mic, but is shunned by the very people that he was seeking to save. He creates a gauntlet that stores his power and ascends into the clouds and sleeps until he is needed again. That day inevitably arrives, and Adam WarRock awakes again. WarRock’s saga continues throughout the course of the album, and eventually he meets Demonos on the track “Battle (Intro)”. Demonos and WarRock meet in an arena, complete with cheesy announcer. WarRock also informs Demonos of his power with lines like “Ya’ll must be crazy, thinking you can mess with Adam, man/Thinking I’m a goody two shoes like my name was Adam Ant.” The lyrical and heroic battle continues over the course of the album, especially on the track “Heroes Requiem,” where Demonos vanquishes several well-known super heroes. WarRock and Demonos have their final showdown on the song “Battle (Finale)” and it is an epic contest.

Watch Now: Paper Animated ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

I recently came across this while trolling the ol’ interwebs. Eric Power (awesome last name) has created sort of a “clip show” of the Star Wars original trilogy using paper animation.
Click below to watch this cool vid. I am really shocked and amazed at the fact that he was able to work in so many important events from Episodes 4, 5, and 6 with a runtime of two minutes and forty seconds. This is actually the music video to an original song entitled “Tattooine,” sung by Jeremy Messersmith. This is now my new favorite Star Wars song. Take that, John Williams!! Seriously, though, I cannot get this very catchy song out of my head. Star Wars geeks who may have been disappointed (or thrilled) by last week’s news about the entire Star Wars saga being re-released in 3D now have this awesome video to show us what we really loved about the original saga, and that’s the heart of the film. And lightsabers. Lightsabers are always awesome. I would’ve liked a little more Lando, but this video still warms my geek heart.

Let Me In
Directed by Matt Reeves
Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz, Richard Jenkins, Elias Koteas
Rated R
Release date: October 1, 2010
Let Me In is an American remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In. Owen, portrayed by Kodi Smit-McPhee, lives with his mom in an apartment complex. Owen’s parents are divorced and he is constantly bullied at school. Things begin to change when Owen meets and befriends Abby (Chloe Moretz, a girl who moves into his apartment complex. Abby behaves a little strangely, but their friendship continues to grow. Eventually, Owen learns that Abby is a vampire and has to feed on human blood to survive. Kodi Smit-McPhee is very believable as the pitifully frail Owen. It is hard not to feel sympathy with him when he is verbally and physically abused by a gang of bullies led by Kenny. Kenny is portrayed by Dylan Minnette as an evil, callous child. Chloe Moretz follows up her excellent portrayal of Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass with another strong performance as the eternal vampire girl Abby. Smit-McPhee and Moretz play their roles perfectly and their puppy-love relationship seems very plausible.

Watch Now: Old Spice Guy as Luke Cage… Sort Of

Isaiah Mustafa aka “The Old Spice Guy” is clearly having a moment. He’s won over many fans as the “Man Your Man Could Smell Like” in the Old Spice commercials. He’s also recently appeared on Chuck and has a role in an upcoming Tyler Perry movie. Recently, Mustafa has been campaigning for the role of Marvel Comics character Luke Cage. He originally revealed his dream of playing Luke Cage during an interview on G4’s Attack of the Show. The interwebs latched onto this idea, and now there is an “Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Cage” Facebook page. However, history has shown that aggressive campaigns for comic book hero roles usually tend to backfire. The images of Sean Young in a poorly made Catwoman suit on Joan Rivers’ talkshow and Thomas Jane’s excellent (though unsuccessful) Jonah Hex photo spring to mind. Mustafa has yet to be cast as Luke Cage in a film, but Marvel.com released a hilariously awesome Youtube video of Mustafa playing Luke Cage in a rather unique venue. Watch the awesomeness below.

‘Black Dynamite’ Comic on the Way

This project has not been formally announced yet, but yesterday, finished pages from a Black Dynamite comic hit the internet.
For those not in the know, Black Dynamite is the mock blaxploitation, or moxploitation, film about a badass federal agent who wages war against “The Man” after his brother dies from overdosing on “smack.” Michael Jai White (Spawn, The Dark Knight) is the lead character Black Dynamite. I LOVED the movie and thought that it was a perfect homage to the 70’s blaxploitation films and a witty satire at the same time. I am eagerly awaiting a formal announcement on this comic from Ape Entertainment. I will buy the singles and the trade. I want this hardcover on my shelf. I can’t wait to read Black Dynamite’s battles against “The Man” on a monthly basis.
