| Quick Reminder: Shark Week Is Happening NOW!
The Discovery Channel‘s most popular week of the year is without doubt the massive Shark Week. Even though the hugely-popular traditional summer event began last night, we wanted to send a quick little reminder to all of you who may still be unaware that it’s going on right this moment! Shark Week is now on its 22nd annual broadcast, and just like every other year, they have some vicious and awesome new shows that the shark fan in all of us just can’t miss. Their main event of the week is a special called Blood in the Water. The two-hour show tells the story of a multitude of shark attacks in New Jersey in 1916. These events were the actual events that inspired Steven Spielberg’s classic ocean horror movie, Jaws. The events were also at a time when people just didn’t know anything about these sea monsters, so as you can imagine, mass chaos ensued.

| Shatner: Recites Sarah Palin Tweets; Pressures HP |
We love a good Shatner story, and today we have a few to share with you.
Earlier this week, William Shatner made an appearance on The Tonight Show, where he recited Gov. Sarah Palin’s resignation speech as poetry. Palin had promised her supporters that she’d keep in touch via Twitter and she most certainly has been doing so. So, Shatner went on The Tonight Show again last night to recite her most interesting tweets. You can watch both video segments here below. In other Shatner news, the Star Trek vet put the pressure on Hewlett-Packard this week, leaving a company-wide voicemail message for staff of the computer giant. “This is William Shatner. You, HP, promised me a toxic free computer by 2009. Now my friends at Greenpeace tell me I will have to wait until 2011. What’s up with that?… Please ask your leader, Mark Hurd, to make computers that are free of toxic PVC plastic and brominated flame retardants just as Apple has done.”

| DVD Review: Ghost Town (Blu-ray) |
 Ghost Town
Blu-ray Edition
Starring Ricky Gervais, Tea Leoni, Greg Kinnear
Directed by David Koepp
Paramount Home Entertainment
Release Date: December 27, 2008
When I first saw the trailer for Dreamworks’ film Ghost Town on television, I immediately assumed it as another example of a popular TV star making a crappy movie for a big paycheck. I don’t know about you but watching Ricky Gervais gag because of a smelly dog is not funny to me, but maybe I was the wrong target audience for the film. Having just been released on DVD and Blu-ray, I thought I’d give it a try and it turns out the movie’s only mistake was hiring whoever created those terrible trailers. Ghost Town centers around dentist Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais). Pincus is not the nicest nor the most social guy around and it shows in his lack of friends and loved ones. After Pincus unexpectedly dies for a brief moment during a routine surgery, he begins to see dead people. News of someone alive being able to see the dead passes quickly through the ghost community, resulting in ghosts showing up at Pincus’ doorstep. One of the ghosts, Frank (Greg Kinnear), makes Pincus a promise. If Pincus helps Frank’s widow, Gwen (Tea Leoni), Frank will make all the ghosts stop bothering him. Things, of course, go south and Pincus ends up questioning his past, present, and future.

| TV Preview: The Green’s ‘Big Ideas for a Small Planet: Fashion’ |
Big Ideas for a Small Planet: Fashion
The Sundance Channel
Air date: May 6, 2008, 9pm EST
When thinking of environmentally friendly activities to include in their daily routines, most people will likely consider the more common things like recycling, decreasing auto emissions and air pollution, taking public transportation when possible, using energy saving light bulbs, etc. All of these are extremely important and making them priorities will contribute to keeping our planet green and healthy. The fact is that all of our daily activities should be made with the environment in mind. This is the idea behind the Sundance Channel‘s weekly environmental series, The Green. For instance, most people don’t relate fashion choices to the environment. Tonight’s episode of Big Ideas for a Small Planet: Fashion focuses on fashion and tells us why something as seemingly innocent as buying a pair of jeans does have a significant impact on the environment.
