Jaws Movie Poster

Few movie posters are as familiar or as terrifying as Roger Kastel‘s poster for Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic JAWS, which features a large shark making its way straight up towards a swimmer.

A British cage diver and filmmaker named Euan Rannachan captured an incredible shot of a great white shark off the coast of Mexico, which is remarkably similar to the above mentioned JAWS poster. It shows a 17-foot great white making its way toward the surface, facing the camera with a toothy grin. Thankfully there were no oblivious swimmers above for the shark to target.

You can see both the image and the JAWS poster below for comparison.

Top 5 Shark movies

JAWS is my favorite movie of all time and has instilled in me a lifelong affinity for sharks. It also spawned an entire sub genre of “shark movies.” Hollywood and both big- and small-budget filmmakers have been trying to replicate the success of Steven Spielberg’s classic ever since its debut in 1975. This summer is giving shark fans, and especially shark movie fans, a real treat. In late July, the Discovery Channel raked in the ratings with their annual Shark Week. This past Friday, giant shark movie, The Meg, opened in theaters everywhere, and later this month the Sharknado franchise comes to a close with The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time.

Since we’re talking about some upcoming shark movies, let’s take a look at some of the best shark films of all time, and of course I’m not counting JAWS because Spielberg’s classic is untouchable. I will also leave out the underrated JAWS 2 because of the familiar feel to its original. Without further ado, here are the Top 5 Shark Movies That Are NOT JAWS.

Honest Trailers Jaws

School’s out, and the 4th of July is right around the corner. That can mean only one thing… Summer Blockbusters! And so the gang at Screen Junkies decided to dedicate today’s Honest Trailer to the original and still in my opinion the best summer blockbuster of all time, Steven Spielberg’s Jaws. If you haven’t seen Jaws… seriously WTF! It’s a 40-year old masterpiece that launched the career of the most decorated director of the past half century. Jaws is my personal choice for “Greatest Horror Movie Ever” and if you don’t agree, have a great swim in the ocean.

So whether you just watched The Shallows in theaters, are enjoying Shark Week on Discovery, or are getting ready for Spielberg’s latest film (The BFG), sit back, relax and enjoy the Honest Trailer for Jaws.

Quint (Robert Shaw) In JAWS

Bethesda’s Fallout 4 has been out almost two months now already and, apart from a small group of gamers who decided it was going to be cool to hate on this installment of the hit game franchise, fans of the series have been happily lost in and wandering the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the Commonwealth, discovering countless secrets and surprises and treats and treasures along the way. One such treat is a little Easter Egg referencing the Steven Spielberg classic JAWS.

Usually when I share an Easter Egg here at Geeks of Doom, it’s something I found while exploring the ‘net. For this particular Easter Egg, however, I actually stumbled upon it myself while exploring the Commonwealth in my own personal Fallout adventure. That’s not to say I’m the first to find it of course—I have no doubt that many have found and shared it online already. But if you’ve not yet seen it I took a bunch of snapshots including where you can find it in the game. You can check those out below!

Holiday Music Gift Guide 2015

The holidays have dawned upon us again and it seems as if the unveiling of them gets sooner and sooner each year. In a world that has seen one of its toughest and tragic years in 2015, the beauty of the holidays is more than a traditional, religious bent, but more about the communion of people and the act of humanity that seems to crawl from the cobwebs only during this time for some people. Regardless of the volume rate, whenever something can collectively bond people together with a sense of energy that runs placid and empathetic, there’s something to be said about the perennial emotion that gets reserved for this time of year. And of course with this year, comes the giving and receiving of gifts and good cheer. And as is my wont for the past few years now, I too have been rather perennial in my choices for key music items to bestow upon good friends and loved ones this time of year. So here’s some picks for this some of this years A-list offerings in music. As usual, this list goes to eleven.

Here’s the Holiday Geek Gift Guide 2015 for Music
