Anaal Nathrakh Band Photo

Anaal Nathrakh is a two-man industrial, blackened, death metal band from Birmingham, England. Their name comes from Merlin’s Charm of Making in John Boorman’s 1981 film Excalibur.

Listen to the audio of Anaal Nathrakh’s new single “Idol” here below.

Despite being active since 1999, the band is still considered by many to be on the cutting edge of modern extreme metal. Desideratum, the band’s eighth studio album, will be available worldwide via Metal Blade Records on October 28, 2014. Here is a preview of the first single, “Idol.”

Rotting Christ Band Photo

Rotting Christ has been a band since 1987. They pretty much singlehandedly pioneered the Greek style of black metal. Euronymous from Mayhem had been planning to sign them to his label just before his murder at the hand of Varg Vikernes.

Here with the official video for the second track of their ninth studio album, Theogonia, is Rotting Christ with “Keravnos Kyvernitos.” Watch the video here below.

For this week’s edition of Black Metal Friday, I have chosen a brand new track that was just released as part of the Adult Swim Singles Collection. “From the Kettle Onto the Coil” is the first new music from San Francisco band Deafheaven since their massive breakthrough album Sunbather topped many a critics “best of” lists at the end of 2013.

Black Metal Friday: “Carving A Giant” By Gorgoroth

Gorgoroth Band Photo

Gorgoroth hails from the mecca of black metal, Bergen, Norway, and takes its name from the plateau of darkness and evil in the Lord of the Rings.

Watch the video (NSFW) here below for Gorgoroth’s “Carving A Giant,” from the album Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam.

Since the band’s inception in 1992, it has been a lightning rod for controversy. As early as their first demos, their heavily Satanic imagery and lyrics led local parents to contact the local sheriff with their concerns. When they signed with Nuclear Blast, many fans cried foul at their alliance with the large mainstream metal label.
