Scott Weiland, best known for his time as lead singer for the popular 90s grunge band Stone Temple Pilots, died on Thursday while on tour in Minnesota. He was 48.

The news was confirmed early Friday morning via a post on Weiland’s official Facebook page, which stated that the singer died in his sleep while on tour with his solo band The Wildabouts. No cause of death was given, but the musician had had a long, publicized struggle with substance abuse.

Phil Taylor, better known as Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, former drummer for heavy metal icons Motorhead, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. He was 61.

Word of Taylor’s passing comes from his former Motorhead bandmate “Fast” Eddie Clarke, who posted the news today to his official Facebook page, noting that his friend “had been ill for sometime.” There was no mention of the cause of death.

The British-born Taylor was drummer for the popular Motorhead line-up that consisted of Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister on bass and vocals, and Clarke on guitar, and appeared on the band’s most classic albums, Overkill (1979), Bomber (1979), Ace of Spades (1980), and Iron Fist (1982). He was with the group from 1975 till 1984, when he left, but then he returned in 1987 for the album Rock and Roll before leaving again in 1992.

Gunnar Hansen, who played the iconic killer Leatherface in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, died yesterday from pancreatic cancer at his home in Maine, according to the LA Times. He was 68.

Hansen was born in Reykjavik, Iceland and moved to the United States at 5. His family moved to Texas where he grew up and attended the University of Texas, studying English and Scandinavian Studies. He was a hulking figure and was cast by Tobe Hooper as the flesh face, chainsaw-wielding psychopath in the 1974 horror classic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Al Molinaro, who appeared on two highly popular 1970’s sitcoms in remembered roles, The Odd Couple and Happy Days, died Friday from complications of a gall stone in Glendale, CA, according to CNN. He was of 96.

Molinaro appeared on The Odd Couple as Murray the Cop, who was super nice, friendly, and with a kind of puppy dog style ignorance that the character wore around his neck in the nicest possible way. He was mainly there as a comic foil and fellow poker player to the show’s duo of stars, Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. Although the show’s producer Garry Marshall (who was a friend of Molinaro) allowed the Murray character to stretch out in an episode or two during the five-year run on ABC (1970-1975). With Molinaro’s portly build, large W.C. Fields-like proboscis, and running water charm, he created one of the more memorable character on the program, and is an instantly recognizable one when the series found mega success in syndication.

This week we lost a giant of the metal community. Bassist Frank Watkins was, for 20 years, a member of Tampa, Florida death metal pioneers Obituary. He had split from the band on bad terms in 2010, and more recently was a member of another groundbreaking band, Norwegian black metal titans Gorgoroth.
