There is a movement afoot that is known as the new wave of old school death metal. It’s the stripping away of all of the super technical elements that have dominated the death metal genre in recent years in favor of the more straight forward elements that defined the early days of the genre. At the very forefront of this movement is an East coast power trio known as Horrendous. Don’t let the name fool you though; these guys are anything but horrendous! In fact, I recently got my mitts on a copy of the band’s upcoming third full-length album, Anareta (due October 30th on Dark Descent Records), and I’m so blown away that I couldn’t wait to share a bit of it with you guys! So without further ado, here is the sixth track from Anareta. It’s called “Sum of All Failures” and it is my Massive Metal Monday track for the week. Go get this record when it comes out… you WON’T be sorry.

[Photo Credit: RafaÅ‚ Kotylak www.kotylak.pl]When one hears the phrase “Polish black metal,” it’s impossible not to immediately think of the mighty Behemoth. They may, after all, be the biggest blackened death metal band in the world. Behemoth are far from being the only game in the neighborhood though. The Eastern Bloc countries are a hotbed for modern black metal with numerous bands looking to stake their claim in the genre. One such band is Mord’A’Stigmata, also hailing from Poland. This experimental, blackened, post-metal unit has seen their stock on a steady rise since their first demos surfaced in 2005. They have, to date, released 3 demos and 4 full-length albums. On September 25th, they will add an EP to that list with the release of Our Hearts Slow Down on Pagan Records. This week’s Black Metal Friday features the epic, 13-minute, opening track of Our Hearts Slow Down. Here is Mord’A’Stigmata with “The Mantra of Anguish.”

| Watch Now: W.A.S.P. “Scream” Lyric Video |

Legendary ’80s shock rock unit W.A.S.P. is set to return on October 9th with its fifteenth studio album Golgotha. The record has been 6 years in the making during which time W.A.S.P. leader Blackie Lawless faced a number of serious health issues including a major injury resulting from a fall out of the back of a pickup truck onto a pile of bricks while working at his California ranch. The singer/guitarist faced down over 2 years of rehabilitation, developing and overcoming an addiction to Oxycodone along the way. The old adage “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” certainly seems to have some bearing in Lawless’s case. The advance tracks from Golgotha would seem to indicate that W.A.S.P. is back in top form. The band has just premiered the lyric video for the track “Scream” and not only is it the strongest W.A.S.P. song in years, it may also be the coolest lyric video that I’ve ever seen. Check out the lyric video for “Scream” here below.
