| Must Watch: Jackie Earle Haley In ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ Teaser Trailer |

The Michael Bay produced Platinum Dunes horror re-imagining of A Nightmare on Elm Street now has its very own teaser trailer courtesy of MySpace, and it’s something to see for fans of the series! This new Nightmare on Elm Street is going in what sounds like the best possible direction: it uses the Freddy Krueger who slaughters you in your dreams that we all know and love, but it gives his character more of a story. As you’ll see in the trailer, they’re aiming to portray him as a regular and innocent dude who’s small and fairly insignificant looking and is wrongly murdered by a mob of disgruntled parents. You all know the rest. The trailer has a lot of good stuff and it looks like it could be a lot of fun. There are some questionable additions that makes it look like it was cut using footage from previous movies including Freddy vs. Jason (creepy-ass children singing; claw scraping on wall), but it all still looks decent. The only real cause for concern is if it will really be unique; or if like Friday the 13th, will it be just like the other movies. When they went and got Oscar-nominated Jackie Earle Haley to play Krueger and shared details, it sounded like a whole new world they were creating. In the trailer, after the cool beginning, you will see many things that would lead one to believe it’s your average slasher movie, so we have ourselves a wait and see situation. One thing we do know is: Freddy will not look exactly the same, and that sick and goofy sense of humor appears to be gone completely. | SDCC 09: Jackie Earle Haley Nails Freddy Krueger In New ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ Footage |

It’s no secret that I am not a fan of the current trend that’s sweeping Hollywood of taking all of the televisions shows and movies from the 70s and 80s and reimagining, revamping, and rebooting them for today’s younger audiences. So, when I heard last year that New Line/Platinum Dunes was going to relaunch the A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise, I was totally against it, as was most of my colleagues. The original is a classic horror flick, why redo it? But then Jackie Earle Haley, who earlier this year totally killed in the role of Rorschach in Watchmen, was cast as the iconic horror figure Freddy Krueger and I thought, now this film has a chance.
At the Warner Bros. panel at the San Diego Comic-Con today, Haley made an appearance along with the new Elm Street director Samuel Bayer and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller to debut the first footage from the upcoming film. My initial reaction was a positive one and I believe that Haley totally nails the role of Freddy Krueger. We weren’t given a lengthy look at the villainous Krueger, but what we do see is chilling and reminiscent of the first Elm Street flick. It’s hard to scare today’s audiences, who’ve basically seen it all at this point, but from what I saw, at least fans of the original franchise will not be disappointed. Check out the footage description here below.

| Geek Peek: ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ Logo, Poster & Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger |

The past couple of days have delivered our first very minor peeks at what to expect in the new A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot from Platinum Dunes, director Samuel Bayer, and producers Brad Fuller and Michael Bay. Various online journalists were given the opportunity to visit the set of the film recently, and while no one is allowed to get into details about that yet, a very cool title logo has been unveiled. Along with that, MySpace and IGN have both been given an exclusive image to show off: one a dark first peek at Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, and the other a great teaser poster. As it is with all of these horror icon reboots, people wonder how much exactly they will change from the original character (in this case, played by Robert England), and what route they’re going to take. With these two teaser images, we have some possible answers. In the image of Haley as Krueger, we see that three of the major four elements of Krueger seem to be fairly unchanged: the fedora, tattered and torn Christmas sweater, and the glove all seem to be in tact. The other major element is of course his disfigured face, which we get a small look at in the teaser poster. In it, it actually looks like they might have smartly upgraded the deformed face to look less like applied latex, and more like an actual burn victim. I always hoped that maybe they would go a little Two Face from The Dark Knight with it, but it looks like instead of my ash and fire hopes, they will be doing their own version of the healed up and scarred version. | Jackie Earle Haley Is Freddy Krueger In ‘Nightmare’ Reboot; More Castings |

There’s only one name that was ever legitimately rumored to be up for the role of Freddy Krueger in the new Platinum Dunes reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and that name is Jackie Earle Haley. Haley was first rumored to be up for the part by Latino Review back in February, and now, after Bloody-Disgusting received the exclusive that he was officially in-talks for the role, it’s been confirmed that Haley will indeed play Freddy Krueger. Jackie Earle Haley has been around since the ’70s where he appeared in The Bad News Bears, but after that he disappeared for a long, long time. He stormed back into sight with his Academy Award nominated performance as a pedophile (practicing for Freddy?) in Little Children. Most recently he was the man that brought the iconic Rorschach to life in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. With filming for the Wesley Strick scripted A Nightmare on Elm Street set to start filming next month in Chicago, the deal almost didn’t get done as Haley is currently working on the TV show Human Target. Thankfully, schedules were looked at and adjusted to make it all work out. Click over to the other side for more, as well as a video of Jackie Earle Haley responding to questions about playing Freddy while he was doing press for Watchmen.

| New ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ Information: The Re-invention Of Freddy Krueger?
Now that the dust has settled from the return of Jason Voorhees in the Platinum Dunes reboot of Friday the 13th, a new storm is brewing with next horror reboot — A Nightmare on Elm Street. The movie isn’t being released until April of next year, but rumors have already lit up the ‘Net on multiple occasions. Thankfully, Latino Review was able to grab a copy of the script and finally give us a little insight into what to expect. Head over to their site to hear the complete review! The one big noticeable difference in these two reboots, was that with Friday the 13th, you only needed to find a guy with the right look to fill the shoes of Jason — but when it comes to Freddy Krueger, you had an impossible personality to replace. This is something that I once thought would be a killer blow to the new venture, but with this information we now have, I’m starting retract my steps.
