Geek Art: The Beatles In Lord Of The Rings In ‘Moria Road’

Believe it or not, there was a time when The Beatles wanted to star in a live-action adaptation of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, with Stanley Kubrick to direct. The cast would be Paul McCartney as Frodo Baggins, Ringo Starr as Sam Gamgee (both as hobbits), George Harrison as the wizard Gandalf, and John Lennon as the creature Gollum, but either Kubrick wasn’t on board for it or Tolkien killed it (it’s unclear which).
Obviously, that would have been an interesting project that unfortunately we’ll never get to see. But artist Shane Parker has decided to give us his depiction of what the Beatles in the LoTR could have looked like with his Abbey Road-LoTR mash-up “Moria Road.”

Geek Gear: Star Wars/Abbey Road T-Shirt ‘Cantina Walk’

In light of the news today that Abbey Road Crossing was designated a landmark, I thought it’d be great to share this T-shirt design over at Threadless called Cantina Walk.
The design, by artist iceknyght, shows Mos Eisley Cantina band Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes from the first Star Wars film replicating the icon Abbey Road Crossing photo from The Beatles‘ Abbey Road album.
The t-shirt is not yet for sale. Instead, Threadless is asking people to vote for the design. If enough people want it, they’ll sell, so be sure to head over to the site and vote for it! Go to the top right side of the page, where it says “I’d buy it…” and there’s two boxes you can check off underneath: “as a tee!” and “as a print!” As of right now, there’s 5 more days left before the voting ends, so be sure to make it over there and cast your vote!

Beatles’ Abbey Road Crossing Given Landmark Status

Abbey Road Crossing, where the iconic photo of The Beatles was taken for their Abbey Road album, has been designated a heritage site.
The photo of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr walking single-file along the north London zebra crossing (as it’s known in the UK) was included on the album’s sleeve and is one of the most famous pictures of The Beatles. Abbey Road Crossing, which is outside the Abbey Road Studios where the 1969 album was recorded, is already a tourist attraction that thousands of people flock to each year to recreate the famous image.
