In case you’ve yet to see them, the nominees for the 84th annual Academy Awards ceremony were announced earlier today.

As is usual, some of the nominations made folks happy, while others left many enraged. Martin Scorsese‘s epic fantasy Hugo led the charge with 11 nods, with silent flick The Artist bringing it 10.

A trailer has been released for the upcoming 84th annual Academy Awards ceremony.

In the trailer, which was made with Funny or Die, Transformers co-stars Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox are special agents working for William Fichtner (Armageddon, Black Hawk Down), who sends them out to find the long-lost Billy Crystal (City Slickers, The Princess Bride), known only as the one they call “The Host.” Along the way they get a little help from Vinnie Jones (Snatch, Midnight Meat Train) and Robin Williams (Good Will Hunting, Mrs. Doubtfire), as well.

It’s Official: Billy Crystal To Replace Eddie Murphy As Oscar Host

In an effort to delete the previous week’s events and get things moving in the right direction again, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that none other than Billy Crystal, one of the greatest Academy Awards host ever to take the stage, will be returning for a 9th time to replace the recently departed Eddie Murphy.

It was thought that Crystal might be an option after it was reported that he would be involved in the ceremony whether he was hosting or not a while back. Fans had different ideas, putting on a campaign to get the Muppets to host, but Billy feels like the right choice.

What a crazy story this has become.

Just yesterday it was reported that Brett Ratner had stepped down as a producer of the 84th annual Academy Awards ceremony after a gay slur and other poor speaking decisions rightfully saw him in boiling water. At the time it appeared that Eddie Murphy—Ratner’s choice to host the awards—would still be taking on the job, but the Academy was now on a desperate search for a replacement producer.

It began back in August when the surprising announcement was made that Rush Hour and X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner was being brought on board to produce the 84th annual Academy Awards ceremony with Don Mischer. Then came word that Ratner’s one and only choice to host the ceremony was Eddie Murphy, who ended up landing the job over any other names that might have been discussed.

Now, after a not-so-shining week of promoting his new movie, Tower Heist, Ratner has decided to step down as producer.
