A while back I was shown a trailer for an upcoming horror video game titled Among the Sleep. It instantly grabbed my attention because of just how darn unique it looked. It doesn’t involve you button mashing your way through wave after wave of nightmare inducing beasties, and in fact, doesn’t involve any kind of combat whatsoever. See, in this particular game, you play as a terrified two-year-old child. Instead of fighting off any dangers that might be approaching, you’ll have to interact with your environment and find places to hide from said danger, such as under the bed or in a cupboard. The main focus of the game is exploration and atmospheric horror, but the developers also hope to add some puzzle and adventure elements.
But they need your help. The game is being made by a small Norwegian developer called Krillbite Studio, with a team of people who still have to work part-time jobs to get by. They’ve done a large chunk of the game already, but they’re hoping by looking to fans for help, they can quit those part-time jobs and focus 100% on finishing the game while staying independent and free of the constrictions of a publisher.
Continue below to see the developer’s pitch for why you should donate, and some videos looking at gameplay from Among the Sleep.
