Area 51
An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base
Hardcover | Kindle
Written by Annie Jacobsen
Little, Brown and Company
Release date: May 17, 2011 Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base is an interesting read, as it provides an abundant history of the invention of nuclear weapons and spy planes, most of which took place at a military base that technically never existed: Area 51 in Nevada. Annie Jacobsen provides fascinating insight and thorough history into the motives of the world’s most powerful men before, during and after the Cold War, that ends in the present day by explaining how unmanned drones save the lives of our many service members in the Middle East and, ultimately, every one of us back home on relatively safe ground. Okay, so now we know the truth: The United States government does things we don’t know about in places that don’t officially exist. Revelation! Not so much. I’m sure by 2011, most Americans are aware that our government engages in all manner of secret shenanigans in the name of national security. And that sits just fine with me; I don’t have a “need-to-know” about exactly how the CIA, the U.S. Armed Forces, and all the President’s men (and women, but, let’s face it, mostly men) keep one step (and hopefully more) ahead of anyone who may wish to do us harm any more than I have a need-to-know about which fabric softener my favorite rock star uses. But way back in 1951 when Area 51 was created, though certainly not the first top secret government playground, the public had unlimited trust and faith that their leaders always told them the truth. Thanks to Watergate, of course, now we know different.

| Exclusive Spy Report: JJ Abrams’ ‘Super 8’ Teaser Trailer DescriptionEarlier this week, word got out that a teaser trailer for a new J.J. Abrams film called Super 8 would be playing in theaters in front of showings of Iron Man 2, starting with tonight’s midnight screenings. Of course, initial reports were that Super 8 was somehow connected to another Abrams property, 2008’s Cloverfield, as either a sequel or more likely, a prequel [read Is There A ‘Cloverfield 2’ Teaser Trailer Attached To ‘Iron Man 2’?]. Abrams has since insisted that the film has nothing to do with Cloverfield, but being the man of mystery he is, would not offer up what it is about. We have a super spy report on the soon-to-be released Super 8 teaser trailer that was given exclusively to Geeks of Doom by a very reliable source. You can read all about the footage here below, along with some non-spoilery facts that came direct from the teaser.

| Next Up For ‘Paranormal Activity’ Director Oren Peli: Aliens At ‘Area 51’ |
|
As you might have noticed, the homemade looking ghost movie Paranormal Activity is on a mission to rule the world with ours and many others’ support (Read: Help Needed NOW! You The Fans Can Get “˜Paranormal Activity’ The Wide Release It Deserves!). That movie was Oren Peli‘s first ever movie as a director, but it has not taken him a long time to line up a second job that will run in the same circles as his first work. The trades are reporting that Peli will make a movie called Area 51 in which a group of three teens decide to grab their video camera and head to the infamous and mysterious Nevada desert location that is so renowned for its tales of alien species crashing and being stored there. That is about all that is known of the project, but as you can assume, what these three will surely document is some unbelievable footage of alien beings that may just get out of hand in a hurry. Paranormal producer Jason Blum will return for this project, and the budget will be a massive $5 Million. That may not sound like much in the world of movies, but remembering that Paranormal only cost $11,000, you can only imagine what Peli will come up with.
