Paramount has released the first trailer for Oren Peli‘s found footage horror Area 51. The new film is under Paramount Insurge, the studio’s horror branch.
In the movie, a group of friends head over to Vegas for a trip, where one convinces them that they should break into Area 51, where they find terrifying proof of alien presence. Hit the jump to check it out.
It has been confirmed that the film will receive one-weekend-only limited engagements exclusively at 16 Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in May. Additionally, the film will be available day-and-date on VOD and all digital platforms.
Area 51 looked like it would be Peli’s quick follow up to his huge indie hit Paranormal Activity, but that was way back in 2009. It was filmed for the most part then, six years ago now, and then sat on the shelf for four years until some rewrites and reshoots were done in 2013 (explaining the year the movie is set shown at the beginning of the trailer).
But based what we see in the trailer alone, it’s not at all hard to see why Paramount is giving the movie a limited release while simultaneously releasing it on VOD on the same day.
Area 51 will have a limited one-weekend screening run exclusively at the Alamo Drafthouse on May 15th.
Apple has the trailer in HD.
