Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Image

One of the best parts about Assassin’s Creed III, a game that reignited a stale franchise for many (myself included), was of course the naval battles, which were absurdly entertaining. These naval missions required you to go to the dock, choose which mission you wanted to do, and wait while it loaded. This was entirely understandable, as you can’t just jump from a massive open world map onto a boat and start exploring a massive open-world sea. Consoles simply don’t have that kind of power, at least this generation of consoles anyway…right? Incorrect!

We saw the first gameplay demo for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag at E3, and while it looks like a dream game for fans of the pirate sub-genre (once again, myself included), the most impressive part of the demo was seeing your character, Edward Kenway (father to Haytham Kenway and grandfather to Connor Kenway from AC3) transition seamlessly from land to sea.

Now comes a new 13-minute gameplay demo that really shows off your ability to explore the world of Black Flag, including these transitions from land to sea. You can check it out below!

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Image

It wouldn’t be E3 without a new Assassin’s Creed game, and now that Ubisoft appears to have learned not to linger too long in one time period, the games have grown more and more exciting.

One of the most popular new features of the last game,
Assassin’s Creed III, was by far the naval gameplay. Interest in the game ignited after that incredible naval gameplay demo was shared at last year’s E3, and Ubisoft is smartly capitalizing on that with Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. The new game will let us be something most people have dreamed of or pretended being as a kid: pirates!

Continue below to see the first gameplay demo for Assassin’s Creed 4.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Image

There’s no slowing down Ubisoft when it comes to their Assassin’s Creed franchise, but it appears that they’ve learned their lesson when it comes to doing sub-sequels. Instead of keeping a character around for a few games as they did with Ezio Auditore in Assassin’s Creed II and its two sequels, they’re going to move right from the American Revolution in Assassin’s Creed III to brand new waters with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

And as you may have guessed, the game will delve into the world of pirates! The dirty but always entertaining rum-guzzling kind. You can check out the first trailer for Black Flag below now.
