Sling TV really wants to be your favorite cord-cutting service. It’s spent the last couple of years getting itself on not just Roku, but FireTV and Apple TV (4th generation) for $20 a month with no contract, which is a pretty incredible feat in this Comcast, Time warner, Optimum world. The Meridian, Colorado-based company has been pushing interesting promotions all month long in celebration of SlingTV’s birthday month. What better way to “pull a hobbit” and give gifts for your b-day than to hook geeks up with content. Last weekend, Sling TV gave their Blue and Orange users free access to HBO’s online content library just long enough for them to take in new series like Big Little Lies and Crashing. This weekend, Sling TV is opening up the Internet tubes to allow their subscribers unlimited access to STARZ, the premium cable network that brought us the smash hit time-traveling period drama, Outlander, based on the novels by author Diana Gabaldon. STARZ is also responsible for Black Sails, a period pirate drama for those looking for a bit more substance than the swashbucklers in Disney’s high-seas franchise.

| ‘Black Sails’ Season 4 Will Be Final Season
Starz has announced that season four of their popular pirate drama Black Sails will be its last season. The fourth season is set to premiere in 2017, and will have 10 episodes to wrap up all of its storylines. Though it seems like a quick exit, that’s just sort of how things work with Starz. Black Sails is the first series to go past three seasons, passing Spartacus and its three (and 1/2 with the prequel miniseries) seasons. They also just ordered a season four and season five for Powers, which will make that series their new longest runner. For one comparison, HBO’s Deadwood ran for four seasons and many feel it was canceled far too soon. If things go well, we can only hope that the series based on Neil Gaiman’s American Gods will be the next to climb to the top.

RELEASE DATE: January 6, 2015 I’m terrible at watching TV shows. Just awful. New ones often come around that I really want to check out, and before I know it multiple seasons have come and gone. Seriously—it feels like time travel at times. Being a huge fan of pirates (I even enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean movies most people aren’t so fond of), Black Sails on Starz was one such show that immediately piqued my attention but got away from me. This is thanks in part to its fairly brief maiden voyage (season one is only eight episodes). But thankfully I was able to check it out on Blu-ray, and with season two having just kicked off recently, I’m happy to finally be on board.
