Better Call Saul Episode 1.4 Hero Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) AMC

We’re already through three episodes of the AMC original series Better Call Saul, with Bob Odenkirk reprising his role from Breaking Bad. In the first episode, which premiered on February 8, 2015, we were re-introduced to the character, who, for this prequel series, is known by his real name Jimmy McGill. The first two episodes gave us just a tiny glimpse of the character’s post-Bad whereabouts, with the majority of the events of the series so far taking place in 2002 when Jimmy was a struggling public defender before he became the shady strip-mall lawyer Saul Goodman with the popular “Better Call Saul” billboard and bench ads and TV commercials.

Episode 1.3 “Nacho,” which began with a flashback to Jimmy’s situation back in 1992, was mostly about Nacho’s grand plans to rob the Kettleman family and how Jimmy was going to handle it — would he join Nacho for the robbery or try to prevent the crime? Episode 4, “Hero,” will address the direct fall-out from the events of Episode 1.3, and will see Jimmy trying to explain to Nacho that every decision he made was for the greater good. How will Nacho react?

Check out the preview photos and video here below for Episode 1.4 “Hero.”

Directed by Terry McDonough
Written Thomas Schnauz

We all know Saul Goodman, the criminal lawyer — not criminal lawyer, from AMC’s mega-hit Breaking Bad. He’s unscrupulous, he’s shady, he’s somewhat cheesy, and he’s got a lot of underground connections, schemes, and burner cell phones. He knows how to manipulate the law in just the right way to get what he wants and to get his absolutely guilty clients off, or at least get their sentences drastically reduced. A guy like this has obviously been running his cons and gambles for quite some time to be able to get away with what his does — and in plain sight, as his face is all over billboards, benches, and TV commercials. Yet, in AMC’s Breaking Bad prequel/spin-off Better Call Saul, we learn that Saul only six years prior had been Jimmy McGill, a struggling public defender who couldn’t even pay $3 to park his car at the county courthouse.

How did down-on-his-luck screw-up Jimmy McGill become the savvy lawyer Saul Goodman after only a few years? It’s three episodes into Better Call Saul and the breadcrumbs to the underworld have been laid out for Jimmy’s transition into Saul.

Last week saw the two-night premiere of AMC’s spin-off Better Call Saul, with Bob Odenkirk reprising his role from Breaking Bad. In the first two episodes, which aired last Sunday and Monday respectively, we’re re-introduced to the character, only for this prequel series, he goes by his real name Jimmy McGill. Although the premiere episode gave a glimpse of the character’s post-Bad whereabouts, the events of the series so far take place in 2002 when Jimmy was a struggling public defender before he became the shady strip-mall lawyer Saul Goodman with the popular “Better Call Saul” billboard and bench ads and TV commercials.

The end of Episode 1.2 gave us an idea of how Jimmy will enter the world that Saul eventually inhabits. Check out the preview photos and video here below for Episode 1.3.

SNL 40 Melissa McCarthy Revives Chris Farley's Matt Foley Saturday Night Live

Tonight’s Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special has seen a lot of reuniting of past and present cast members, musical guests, hosts, and more, as well as tributes to alumni who have passed on.

In one said tribute of the night, actress and three-time SNL host Melissa McCarthy revived the Matt Foley character, made popular by the late Chris Farley. McCarthy made an appearance during a Weekend Update segment hosted by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Jane Curtin (all past Weekend Update hosts), coming out dressed in the motivational speaker’s classic duds — thick black glasses, plaid jacket, green necktie, and pants that constantly need adjusting.

Watch the video here below from the SNL 40 special of the entire Weekend Update segment, which includes the McCarthy as Matt Foley bit, as well as Emma Stone doing the late Gilda Radner’s Roseanne Roseannadanna character. Also embedded below is the original Chris Farley skit which featured Chris Spade and guest Christina Applegate.

Better Call Saul Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) in Episode 102

Better Call Saul
Episode 1.2 “Mijo”
Directed by Michelle MacLaren
Written Peter Gould
Starring Bob Odenkirk, Michael McKean, Jonathan Banks, Rhea Seehorn, Michael Mando, Patrick Fabian
AMC
Air Date: Monday, February 9, 2015, 10pm

So if you were blown away by the first episode of Better Caul Saul, then you won’t believe what’s in store for the second episode, 1.2 “Mijo,” which airs tonight on AMC, after a repeat of the first episode,

We now know that one Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), better known to the Breaking Bad universe as Saul Goodman, is actually working at the Cinnabon he tersely joked about with Walter White when the two shared what was essentially their final moments together in the penultimate Breaking Bad episode “Granite State.” But that’s all we know about that. We do know that he’s living in some secluded place in the Midwest and alone or so it seems, of course. The beauty of Better Call Saul, even this early on, is how much is unknown and how the wonderful pace takes it’s time to get us and Jimmy there. It’s an express train of exposition and narrative when needed, but chugs along the landscape so one can see clearly out the window.
