Last month, a very brief logo reveal trailer showed up for Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation’s sequel, Cars 2. For fans of the first movie and those looking forward to the sequel, it was nice to see just a little something, but let’s be honest here, actual trailers are always more exciting.

The first teaser trailer for Cars 2 is now here to be seen via Yahoo! Movies, and while it too is fairly short, it does show us a lot more and offers a better idea of where the follow-up to 2006’s Cars will go.

This time around, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is off to compete in a race to determine the fastest car on the planet, but the movie sounds like it will focus on perhaps the most popular character from the original, Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), who finds himself caught up in a very James Bond-like adventure.

You can head over to the other side now to read a full synopsis of the movie and check out the teaser trailer for yourself!

Cars #1Cars #1
Written by Alan Porter and Mark Cooper
Art by Fabricio Grellet
Colors by Digikore Studios
Letters by Deron Bennett
Covers by Allen Gladfelter
BOOM! Studios
Release date: February 17, 2010

Cars #1 takes us to a post-apocalyptic future, where the cars have gained sentience and wiped out the human race. They now rule over a desert-like wasteland, participating in terrible cross country races and demolition derbies in order to crown King Engine.

Okay, so that’s not completely true.

The comic book adaptation of the multi-million dollars Pixar blockbuster, Cars #1 continues the story of Lightning McQueen, a race car in a cartoon world where there are only cars, no people. Of course, there’s no explanation as to why this world is the way it is, but that’s fine. In fact, the biggest weakness of the Cars comic book series, which actually begins with Issue #0, is that it assumes you are already familiar with the Cars film. If you’ve never seen the movie, it will take you some time to get familiar with the characters.

Cars 2

Of Pixar’s constant flow of brilliant movies, Cars is probably the least liked of the bunch. So when it was announced that they were actually making a Cars 2, this came as a bit of a surprise to many, especially considering that Pixar usually has nothing to do with sequels aside from the Toy Story franchise. Of their library, the top choice for a sequel would probably have been The Incredibles, which is naturally built for multiple installments.

But alas, it is Cars 2 that is on the way, and the very first piece of concept art has now been released onto the internet, and you can head to the bottom of this very post to check it out now!

Cars 2

It feels like it has been a week since any news that didn’t involve Disney has come out. The Mouse House recently held their D23 Expo and a flood of announcements were made, including some new information on the highly anticipated sequels Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

Toy Story 3 basically just made a bunch of casting announcements. /Film picked up on some Tweets from director Lee Unkrich and Disney that revealed that John Morris, the boy who voiced Andy in Toy Story and Toy Story 2, has been cast once again in the role, which now sees Andy as an 18-year-old young man. Also added to the cast is a great collection of names, some of which are Pixar veterans. Lending their voices once again will be Bonnie Hunt (A Bug’s Life/Cars/Monsters Inc., Jerry Maguire) and Jeff Garlin (Wall-E, Curb Your Enthusiasm); while new to the Pixar dance is Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost) and Timothy Dalton (Hot Fuzz), who will apparently be playing someone named Mr. Pricklepants.
