Thor: Ragnarok Logo

All of Marvel Studios’ films have a different tone and vibe to them, each of which makes them special and unique in their own way. But one particular title fans are interested in is Thor: Ragnarok. When the studio first premiered the new look of the title at San Diego Comic-Con this year, it got fans talking. Soon enough, we got a better idea of what kind of tone to expect when it was confirmed that Devo artist Mark Mothersbaugh was brought in to do the score.

The film will hit theaters next year, so expect Marvel to kick off the marketing campaign soon after Doctor Strange. But director Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) is getting a bit of a head start by talking a little about the film. Check out what he had to say below.

Thor: Ragnarok Logo

Avant-garde musician Mark Mothersbaugh became an icon of 1980’s rock when he helped found the offbeat band Devo and he has composed original music scores for over 170 films and television shows. He’s long been the go-to music man for directors such as Wes Anderson and the team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and now it looks he’ll be bringing his particular brand of quirky, energetic movie melodies to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Mothersbaugh has been hired to provide the score for next year’s Thor: Ragnarok, which is currently filming in Australia under director Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows). Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, respectively, are returning as the heroic, hammer-wielding God of Thunder and his villainous brother Loki.

Andy Serkis Explains Why ‘Jungle Book: Origins’ Will Be “Darker” and For “An Older Audience”

Andy Serkis

Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book set the bar pretty high not only for future adaptations of Rudyard Kipling‘s novel of the same name but also for filmmakers who will use the same stunning crystal clear visual technology that had audiences awestruck.

So there are a lot of eyes on Andy Serkis‘s Jungle Book: Origins, which uses pretty much the same-level star power and will employ a higher-level of visual effects given that Serkis is the one who is behind the camera. Warner Bros. recently decided to push the release date for the film. While that may have been a worry for some, the director says the new date would help him with perfecting the visuals for this very ambitious project, which he says will be “breaking new ground with realistic non-humanoid animal faces” and “convincingly communicate with human language and emotion via performance capture, and are able to stand up to real scrutiny in richly complex dramatic scenes.”

Now he is also talking about the film’s tone, which he says will be “dark” and explore a few different themes that Disney’s film didn’t. More on the story below.
