In a ceremony held on October 30 at Buckingham Palace, the legendary actor was knighted by Prince Charles of England on behalf of his mother, the Queen of England. Lee’s knighthood was announced in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2009. The 87-year-old British actor began his film career in 1948, but in 1958 he really made his mark on pop culture playing Count Dracula in Dracula. Lee has played many memorable roles over the years, like Lord Summerisle in the original Wicker Man, but he’s best known by today’s audiences as Count Dooku from the Star Wars prequels and the wizard Saruman from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Release Date: March 10, 2009 After the death of their foster parents, picture perfect blond siblings Tony and Tia Malone (Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards) are sent to a children’s home, where their attempts to fit in become increasingly difficult as their “special powers” become more apparent. Previously, the young siblings had little memory of their lives before they came to live with the Malones, but they always knew they had special powers. But the more they use their powers, the greater the danger to them will be, as the greedy millionaire Aristotle Bolt (Ray Milland) and his opportunistic employee Lucas Deranian (Donald Pleasence) scheme to use the children’s abilities to their own advantage. Luckily, children in Disney movies are as smart and intuitive as Disney movie villains are obvious, because although Bolt and Deranian try enticing the children with their own playroom and all the toys and ice cream they could ever want, the two men are simply up to no good — and the children realize this soon enough. With Tia’s special star case and as-of-yet deciphered map in hand, the siblings, along with their cooperative black cat Winky, go on the run from the bad guys. Along the way, they stowaway in the back of an RV driven by a cranky loner (Eddie Albert), who at first reluctantly helps the children, who think they know a place that will lead them to discover their true destiny — the mysterious Witch Mountain.

 |
A project that just sort of showed up and started adding big time cast names like Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, and Helena Bonham Carter — Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland just keeps on getting better, now adding the likes of Crispin Glover, Alan Rickman, and Christopher Lee.
Technically, Christopher Lee isn’t official yet, but all signs seem to point to it being a sure thing. Crispin Glover will be playing the role of the Knave of Hearts, who’s put on trial for stealing the Queen of Heart’s (Bonham Carter) tarts, while Alan Rickman will play the hookah-smoking Caterpillar. Also recently announced, Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) will be playing the Cheshire Cat. Reporting from the Wonderland set in Culver City, CA, Zack Roth (son of the film’s producer Joe Roth) said he got to see Depp in character as the Mad Hatter and that he looked “startlingly crazy.” Roth also said that he was told that screenwriter Linda Woolverton “added some socio-political context to the film’s narrative,” which is adapted from the classic Lewis Carroll tale. He also talked a little bit about the set itself…
