On this week’s show, we look at Microsoft‘s big week of announcements, including the new Surface line of tablets designed from the ground up for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Then we follow up with some Apple fallout and follow-up from last week’s WWDC conference.
But first, the headlines…another volley is launched in The Oatmeal vs. FunnyJunk war, Facebook buys Face.com, Netflix changes its API, and an “˜alarming’ rate of government censorship of Internet content.
The seventh episode of The Geeks Of Doom Round Up is here, and Andy takes a look at the trailer for Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, a documentary by Morgan Spurlock, which focuses on the annual San Diego Comic-Con. For our music selection this week, Greg remembers Ronnie Montrose from Montrose and Gamma who passed away this weekend, and in tribute plays “Space Station #5”
Later, we also pay tribute to more of our heroes who passed away this week. Ralph McQuarrie, legendary concept artist whose visions helped determine the look and feel of the Original Star Wars Trilogy, died this weekend – a heavy loss to fans everywhere. Davy Jones of The Monkees also passed away, and we close out the show with a tribute to him.
The trailer for the latest feature from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) has been released. “Why should that mean anything to me,” you’re probably wondering. Because the movie in question is Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, Spurlock’s long-awaited celebration of supreme geekery centered around the annual San Diego Comic-Con he collaborated on with legendary Marvel Comics writer/publisher Stan Lee, film and television visionary Joss Whedon, and Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles, who all served as producers on the documentary.
