The trailer for the latest feature from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) has been released. “Why should that mean anything to me,” you’re probably wondering. Because the movie in question is Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, Spurlock’s long-awaited celebration of supreme geekery centered around the annual San Diego Comic-Con he collaborated on with legendary Marvel Comics writer/publisher Stan Lee, film and television visionary Joss Whedon, and Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles, who all served as producers on the documentary.
You can watch the trailer here below.
The documentary features interviews with Kevin Smith, Eli Roth, and Seth Rogen, but primarily focuses on the people we don’t know – the budding artists, the passionate collectors, and the cosplayers that make up the majority of the convention’s annual attendance. It looks like Spurlock has made a sweet-natured, non-judgmental document of a subculture that is often looked down and mocked mercilessly by mainstream society. I’ve never attended Comic-Con or seen any of Morgan Spurlock’s previous documentaries but I’m still interested in seeing this movie.
Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope doesn’t have a release date set at the moment but is expected to hit theaters later this year.
