The clock ticks down until the Disney D23 Expo 2013 comes to fruition. In a matter of weeks the landmark third event will likely lure tens of thousands to the Anaheim Convention Center. Major announcements will be made. Special appearances are sure to happen. But what awaits is anyone’s guess. I have attended both previous expos, and I eagerly anticipate this next one from August 9 – 11, especially since I will be providing live coverage from the D23 Expo for Geeks of Doom!

Here are 23 ways I think D23 Expo could drop some jaws, rock attendees’ minds and make improvements over previous events.

Marvel's The Avengers

While the weekend doesn’t normally bring the largest amount of news, this weekend was far different. Thanks to Disney and their D23 convention, not only has the world seen new footage from the Marvel and Disney production The Avengers, but Pixar has also enlightened us with the premise for a brand new Toy Story short film.

Our friends over at /Film attended the expo, and have gone out of their way to post a description of the footage, which you can read an excerpt of here after the break.

Pixar

Disney‘s D23 Expo is in full swing, and plenty of juicy morsels are finding their way out to the masses.

Of the many announcements made, two come from the folks at Pixar Animation, who revealed two upcoming movie projects. Neither of the two have titles at the moment, but they will be the next two films to follow Brave (June of 2012) and Monsters University, the Monsters, Inc. prequel that’s set to arrive in June of 2013.

Frankenweenie

For those who don’t know, director Tim Burton made a short film back in 1984 about a boy who loses his dog and brings it back to life called Frankenweenie.

Now Burton is working on an adaptation of that very same short film (which can be seen here), this time using the stop–motion animation techniques used in other films Burton has directed or produced, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. And at the ongoing Disney D23 Expo, an official logo, synopsis, and special notes about the movie have been released.

You can see the official logo above, and you can read the synopsis and notes by continuing on below now.
