The first trailer we saw for Cowboys & Aliens, the new comic book movie from Iron Man director Jon Favreau, was pretty impressive and had most buzzing with excitement for the flick.

That was just a taste. Universal Pictures has now released the new theatrical trailer for the movie and…wow. There’s a lot of big movies coming out this summer, but you would not be out of line to say that this looks like one of the most fun and exciting titles on the way.

The movie stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Clancy Brown, and Paul Dano, and it’s written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof.

You can read a detailed synopsis and check out the trailer below right now. Cowboys & Aliens will hit theaters on July 29, 2011.

The biggest name so far to be cast in Ridley Scott‘s maybe-possibly Alien prequel, Prometheus, has been officially announced.

Reports are that Charlize Theron, who’s name has been one of many wanted for a role in the movie, has joined the cast in what’s assumed will be the female lead. Theron won an Oscar for her role in Monster, and is known for her work on films like The Devil’s Advocate, The Cider House Rules, The Italian Job, North Country, Æon Flux, and Hancock.

Theron joins a small-yet-growing cast that includes Michael Fassbender, who has starred in movies like 300, Inglourious Basterds, Centurion, and the upcoming X-Men: First Class (watch the trailer here), as well as Noomi Rapace, who appeared in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its Millennium Trilogy.

It’s gotten to a point where we may just not have a clue what’s going on with director Ridley Scott‘s return to science fiction, Prometheus, until we see it with our own eyes…much like was the case with Scott’s take on Robin Hood, which saw many strange rumors and rumblings lead us all over the place during production.

Because no one likes to be screwed around with when it comes to movie news — we all just want to know accurate details, not random rumors — we’ll try and ease it back on said rumors and keep it to only things that seem solid in regards to Prometheus from here on out. That said, those of you who have been closely following this movie’s progress should be interested in hearing this last bit of he said, she said.

‘300’ & ‘X-Men: First Class’ Star Michael Fassbender Joins Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’

A new actor has been added to the cast of director Ridley Scott‘s upcoming return to science fiction, Prometheus.

The movie, as you’ll recall, was much-anticipated for a long while as being a prequel to Scott’s 1979 horror classic, Alien. It was only when the above title was announced that we discovered that the movie had grown out of its prequel status, and had evolved into a unique standalone film.

Joining the cast of Prometheus is Michael Fassbender, who’s quickly rising as top young star. Fassbender first caught a lot of eyes as the cocky and humorous member of Leonidas’s Spartans in 300, and has gone on to give memorable performances in Inglourious Basterds and Centurion. He’s currently working on Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, where he’s playing the younger Magneto.

Some major news on Ridley Scott‘s much-discussed Alien prequel has come down the pipe — news that should fetch some interesting reaction from fans who may or may not have been looking forward to another adventure in that world.

After all the things we’ve been hearing about an Alien prequel, from Sigourney Weaver first talking about a fifth movie back in ’08 to first hints that Scott might actually do it. Then the confirmation that the movie was happening with a new director instead of Scott to Scott choosing to do it himself, and that it would be a two-part prequel. Finally, we found out that LOST co-creator Damon Lindelof was re-writing the script, and that Ridley was possibly going to present a storyline that showed the alien creatures from his classic 1979 horror were actually genetically engineered as weapons.

After ALL of that, it sounds like Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel might not be a prequel at all, and that the story they’ve created has evolved into something completely unique. Something called Prometheus.
