With ‘Akira’ Set, Warner Brothers Chooses Director For ‘300’ Prequel ‘Battle Of Artemisia’
|
 |

We’ve been hearing about a 300 prequel/sequel/spinoff for a while now, but we knew it would be a long while before we actually saw it because creator Frank Miller still had to work on the graphic novel for which the movie would be based. In fact, it was almost one year ago that Zack Snyder confirmed that he was working on the script for the prequel, and we haven’t heard much of anything major since then.
At that time it was unclear whether or not Snyder would return to direct the movie, which is now titled 300: Battle of Artemisia (previously titled Xerxes, which is the name of Miller’s graphic novel), though it sounded like he very much wanted to, saying “It’s really going to depend on what the studio wants to do…I don’t have a directing deal in place but we are writing it, so call it intent. If there was a crime they could probably convict me.†But we now know that what the studio (Warner Brothers) wanted, was for Snyder to take on their reboot of Superman, titled Man of Steel, which will star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Michael Shannon, to name a few.

Sam Raimi Grabs Michelle Williams To Play Good Witch In ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Prequel

Everything is coming together rather nicely for director Sam Raimi‘s Wizard of Oz prequel Oz, The Great and Powerful thus far.
After a rocky start trying to lock in a lead, things have settled down and quite the impressive cast has been put together. The prequel stars James Franco as a snake oil salesman who’s whisked off to the lands of Oz in his hot air balloon, where he’ll find himself in the middle of a power struggle before becoming the eventual “Wizard of Oz.” But before Franco was confirmed, Robert Downey Jr. was set to play the part and Johnny Depp was mentioned as a possibility when Downey left.

Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ Prequel To Show Aliens Were Engineered As Weapons?
|
 |

In a recent interview, master filmmaker Ridley Scott talked his career, his life, movies, and eventually got around to that little two-part prequel to his classic 1979 horror, Alien.
Looking back, it’s clear that Scott has rarely failed, and that he likes a good challenge. The 72-year-old director has been going strong for many years, but some wonder if even he can pull off a critically and financially successful new take on his own great mythos. The Alien prequels have been in the news quite a bit since whispers first began, but Ridley was able to share just a tiny bit of detail on where he may go with it.
First of all, James Cameron’s Avatar was brought up, and how it set a new mark for “alien” or other-worldly blockbusters. Scott joked by saying “Jim’s raised the bar and I’ve got to jump to it. He’s not going to get away with it.” For those excited about a new Alien, this means Avatar may have moved it ahead of one or two of the director’s many potential projects.
This is where things got a little interesting, as Scott talked about where he might go with the movies and the alien creatures he had created.

Ridley Scott Says TWO ‘Alien’ Prequels Coming; Sacrificing Quality For 3D?

A press junket for the upcoming Robin Hood was held recently and Ridley Scott was up to answering many questions, including some about his upcoming prequel to Alien.
In a majorly unexpected announcement, Scott declared that it would not just be one prequel movie, but that it would be a two-part film leading up to the events of the original 1979 horror classic. When asked if he would be directing both parts and if they would be filming them both at the same time — as is a popular method for multi-film projects these days — Ridley simply suggested that he was concentrating on the first right now. If Scott was to direct both, the simultaneous approach would be best.

James Cameron To Write ‘Avatar’ Prequel Novel

There’s a pretty big business hiding behind the release of popular movie releases. This is the business of novelization, where authors write entire books adapted from movies in much the same way that some of our favorite movies were adapted from classic literature. The only problem is: very few people actually have any desire to read an entire book based on a movie that they’ve seen.
While it is not known whether an actual novelization will be written for the new biggest movie ever to be made, Avatar, but James Cameron has other plans for a book. The director has decided that an entire prequel story novel will be written, and instead of leaving it in the hands of others, Cameron is going to take care of it himself.
