
As if you didn’t see this one coming. Deadpool 2 is happening. Fans and critics have expressed overwhelmingly positive opinions on the film, and that kind of support only gives more of a reason for 20th Century Fox to give the greenlight for a sequel to happen.
THR confirms that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool, are writing the script for a sequel. This kind of news shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The film has a strong show of support from fans and critics alike and is on track to gross an estimated $65 to $70 million at the box office during this four-day weekend. That is pretty huge for an R-rated comedy. While Ryan Reynolds, director Tim Miller, Reese, and Wernick, fought hard to get this film to happen, much of the reason this film is happening is because of that concept video that was leaked last year. Whether or not that came from a fan or someone within the creative team camp is unclear, but Deadpool is on its way, and we are at the point that we are talking about a sequel. Of course, if the film doesn’t perform well at the box office, the studio could pull the plug on the sequel.
