Vital Remains Band Photo

Those of you who saw my Massive Metal Monday column for this week may recognize that I’m on a bit of a Glen Benton kick this week. From 2003-2007, the Deicide frontman served double duty as the singer of fellow Florida band Vital Remains. The unholy union would yield two albums worth of some of the most brutal death metal ever recorded — 2003’s Dechristianize and 2007’s Icons of Evil.

This week’s Massive Metal Monday track comes to us courtesy of the second biggest selling death metal band in history, Deicide (only Cannibal Corpse has sold more if you’re wondering). The 2015 lineup for the annual Metal Alliance Tour has just been announced, with the headliners this time being the ever controversial death metal pioneers from Florida, Deicide. The band, whose very name means “killing god,” has been at the center of controversy for most of their 28-year existence, whether it be for the upside down cross that leader Glen Benton has repeatedly branded into his forehead or for their extremely confrontational anti-religion stance. With song titles such as “Death to Jesus,” “Fuck Your God,” “Kill the Christian,” “Behead The Prophet,” and “Scars of the Crucifix,” Deicide has never been one to shy away from the controversy. So, if you’re planning on attending this tour, prepare for the religious protestors to be out in force!

Check out Deicide’s Official video for the track “Homage for Satan” from their 2006 album The Stench Of Redemption here below.
