Welcome to 31 Days of Horror, where I’ll cover at least two noteworthy horror films a day for the entirety of the month. Today’s double-shot features a family of zombified, pain-worshipping, backwoods, redneck idiots in Drew Goddard‘s The Cabin in the Woods and a couple of dim-witted country boys in Eli Craig‘s Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil.

Steven Spielberg has an idea on whom he would like to see take the two lead roles in his long-gestating adaptation of Robopocalypse. It’s been reported that Spielberg would like to see Chris Hemsworth play the male lead in the upcoming film and now there is word that Spielberg is looking to Anne Hathaway to play the female lead. In addition to these possible castings, there is confirmation that former 20th Century Fox chairman and CEO Tom Rothman will be a producer for Robopocalypse.

According to Deadline, the studio is tightlipped about any news concerning the casting of lead roles in Robopocalypse. But the fact that Hathaway and Hemsworth could share the silver screen is an exciting thought. We will be likely to hear confirmation of the two being cast in the weeks leading up to the start of principle photography, which is scheduled to begin early 2013.

Taking a break from their college studies, a group of friends – Dana (Kristen Connolly), her friend Jules (Anna Hutchison), Jules’ jock boyfriend Curt (Chris Hemsworth), wisecracking stoner Marty (Fran Kranz), and Holden (Jesse Williams), a friend of Curt’s he trying to hook up with Dana – embark on a weekend getaway to an isolated cabin somewhere in the mountains (and some woods of course, hence the title).

Despite an uncomfortable encounter with a creepy local (Tim De Zarn), the quintet carry on with their relaxing weekend, but unbeknownst to them outside forces led by Sitterson (Richard Jenkins) and Hadley (Bradley Whitford) are monitoring their every move and preparing to unleash a nightmarish horror upon them. As Dana and her friends battle to survive the night, they begin to realize the full scope of the evil that wishes to prey upon them, and by the end all will be revealed and it will not exactly be what you expect.

The third and final act of Marc Forster‘s adaptation of the Max Brooks novel, World War Z, seems to be littered with problems of all kinds. So many problems are infecting this film, that they had to bring Damon Lindelof to pen the rewrites.

Lindelof, however, was unable to complete the task, and now the job of completing the third and final act of the film is in the hands of Cloverfield and Lost writer and Cabin in the Woods co-writer/director, Drew Goddard.

If you haven’t seen The Cabin In The Woods, the new film co-written by Joss Whedon and director Drew Goddard, then definitely head to the theater to see it, as it’s a great film and a wonderful addition to the horror genre. The buzz on the Internet is to go into this movie knowing as little about it as possible, so I’ll direct you to our spoiler-free movie review for now. But The Cabin In The Woods is the kind of movie where once you’ve seen it, you want to know more about it.
