Spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead…

On last week’s Fear the Walking Dead, Nick bonded with Luciana, and helped out the Colonia by creating more pills for them to trade with local gang leader Marco. Meanwhile, Madison, Alicia, and Strand along with hotel workers Elena and Hector formed an alliance with the hotel guest survivors to rid the place of its walkers, so they can make a real home. But, Travis and Chris did not make an appearance, and Ofelia is still missing!

On the latest episode, 2.12 “Pillar of Salt,” Ofelia finally returns!!! Still no Chris and Travis storyline, but there’s plenty of Nick and Luciana at the Colonia; more escapades at the Mexican Gang Costco; Strand suffers an injury from an act of revenge; and Madison once again turns her attention to her quest for her son Nick.

Spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead…

It took three episodes starting with the mid-season 2 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead to catch us up with all the characters, who had been separated and left without shelter during the mid-season finale. We saw Nick on his own journey searching for a place where the dead are not considered “monsters,” and he’s seemingly found it at the Colonia. After their yacht was seized, Madison, Strand, Ofelia, and Alicia were forced to abandon their plans to regroup with the others and instead took shelter at a hotel, which turned out to actually be occupied with both the living and the dead; and Travis was trying to lead his unstable son Chris away from others, but unfortunately came upon some U.S. spring breaker bros who were enticing the unstable boy away.

That brings us to the next installment, 2.11 “Pablo & Jessica,” which shows many of our primary cast members in one episode, except for Ofelia, who disappeared without a trace from the hotel a while back, and Chris and Travis, who were last seen with the bros standing over a murdered farmer and his chickens.

Spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead…

Since its mid-season 2 premiere with Episode 2.8, Fear the Walking Dead has mostly focused on Nick and his journey to self-discovery and his quest to settle down in a place where the “dead” aren’t considered monsters. It seems he might have found that place in the Colonia he’s joined in Mexico. Meanwhile, his mother Madison and sister Alicia are reluctantly on their own path with fellow survivors Ofelia and Victor Strand, who were last seen fighting off walkers at an abandoned hotel.

But, we still haven’t found out what happened to Madison’s fiance Travis and his son Chris, who took off on their own because Chris was seemingly going off the rails and his father was concerned for him.

This new episode, 2.10 “Do Not Disturb,” we catch up with Travis and Chris on the road, and also go back to Alicia, who’s still stuck in her room in the hotel.

Spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead…

Last week’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead, which was the mid-season 2 premiere, focused solely on Nick and his hazardous journey through the Mexican desert that ended with him finding a safe haven. But, as we know with this show, and it’s parent show The Walking Dead, anything that seems too good to be true certainly is.

This new episode, 2.9 “Los Muertos,” brings us back to Nick at Colonia, where he awakens in the infirmary to see the area is desolate. He roams around outside to see where all the residents are and he finds them when he follows the sound of a little girl crying. She points down below. “Mi Papa,” she says. We see a man being led to a school bus by Luciana and Alejandro. Luciana is teary eyed as she asks the man if he’s “ready.” He is, and goes into the bus and out the back door, which leads to a yard with Walkers. The residents are chanting in Spanish (“We come from the dead and to the dead we surrender ourselves”) as the man sacrifices himself to the Walkers, much to Nick’s shock.

Fear The Walking Dead 2.8 Nick

Fear the Walking Dead
Season 2 Episode 8 “Grotesque” (mid-season 2 premiere)
Directed by Dan Sackheim

Spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead…

Fear the Walking Dead, a prequel to AMC’s popular series The Walking Dead, centers on a group of Los Angeles-area survivors of a zombie apocalypse. The second season returned this Sunday with the mid-season premiere, 2.8 “Grotesque.” As this show tends to do, it starts out quite slow, too slow for a premiere, and focuses on one returning character, Nick, even though we’ve been waiting since May to find out what happened to all the people in the main group.

Here’s some catch-up information before we get to the recap of Episode 2.8: The short 6-episode first season introduced us to Madison and her two children, Nick and Alicia, and her boyfriend Travis and his son Chris, who joined up with other survivors to escape Los Angeles. The far superior and extended second season, which will run 15 episodes, premiered in April and saw the group with Victor Strand on his yacht after they are forced to evacuate the city. After several scuffles with some nefarious characters and a failed plan to settle in San Diego (there is no more San Diego!), they arrive in Mexico at a compound run by Celia, the son of Strand’s boyfriend Thomas, who has been bitten and is dying. Turns out, Celia is running some kind of cult of the dead there, thinking that the undead are still people, and Nick is taken in by this belief. Chris, meanwhile, is having some kind of nervous breakdown, and wants his father to let him go “” but of course, Travis won’t give up on his son. Madison, on the other hand, is forced to let her son Nick go when he chooses not to follow his mom and sister after the compound is set ablaze and the remaining survivors scatter.
