NYCC 2017: ‘Cult Of Chucky’ Panel

For nearly three decades, a small red-haired doll has struck fear (and laughs) into the hearts of horror fans. Chucky is a “Good Guy Doll” and he’s you’re “friend till the end.” Of course, he’s likely to cause this end. Possessed by a voodoo curse from serial killer Charles Lee Ray, Chucky debuted back in 1988’s Child’s Play, written by Don Mancini, and starring/voicing Oscar nominee Brad Dourif as the main antagonist. Now six films and 30 years later, Chucky packed out room 1A06 last night at this year’s New York Comic-Con promoting the latest film, Cult of Chucky, out on Blu-ray this week.

Blu-Ray Review: Cult Of Chucky

Cult Of Chucky
DVD | Blu-ray | Digital
Written and Directed by Don Mancini
Starring Fiona Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Alex Vincent, Brad Dourif, Michael Therriault
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment
Release date: October 3, 2017
I remember being a plucky young 6-year old when I first saw commercials for Child’s Play. Don Mancini‘s original story created a new horror icon, Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky. A serial killer with a knowledge of voodoo, Chucky (Brad Dourif) was shot and near death in a toy factory when he transplanted his soul into a “Good Guy Doll.” For nearly 30 years, Chucky has found a place next to Freddy, Jason, and Michael as one of horror’s most prolific killers and sequel machines. With October upon us, Mancini brings us yet another foray into the world of plastic psycho monsters with Cult of Chucky, a movie so laughably ridiculous it actually borders on being legitimately good.

New ‘Child’s Play’ Movie ‘Cult Of Chucky’ Teaser Trailer

A teaser trailer has been released for Cult of Chucky, the seventh movie in the Child’s Play horror franchise. The last time we saw the evil doll was in 2013’s Curse of Chucky, almost a decade after 2004’s Seed of Chucky.
In the latest entry, Nica (Fiona Dourif) finds herself dealing with Chucky (Brad Dourif) once again, this time in an insane asylum. She’ll have help, with Chucky’s child target from the original Child’s Play Andy (once again played by Alex Vincent) returning, but so will Chucky, whose bride Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) is back as well. It’s not clear if the movie involves an epic tag team wrestling match in the middle of the asylum, but you know you’re hoping it does.

SPOILERS for Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency…
Last week on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, holistic detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) and his sidekick Todd (Elijah Wood) finally solved the case of Patrick Spring’s murder after they came face-to-face with a time-traveling younger version of the man. They’re in a time loop! Todd realized Dirk was lying the whole time about not knowing anything, while Dirk feels what he did was not so terrible. Holistic assassin Bartine (Fiona Dourif) and her sidekick Ken (Mpho Koaho) were absent last week, but we know they’re planning to continue their search for Dirk Gently, but this time perhaps not try to kill him. Todd’s ailing sister Amanda (Hannah Marks), also absent in Episode 1.7, had previously left with energy vampires the Rowdy 3 after learning that her brother had lied about having had Pararibulitis, a debilitating genetic disorder she’s currently suffering from. Farah (Jade Eshete) escaped captivity yet again, and took out the droned Agent Weedle (David Lewis). The nefarious Gordon Rimmer (Aaron Douglas) escaped from Detective Estevez (Neil Brown, Jr.), who still has Gordon’s corgi Rapunzel (Bentley the dog) that has Lydia Spring’s (Alison Thornton) soul in it. Inside Gordon’s temple, Dirk was shot by Gordon’s drones, who then also zapped Todd.
Here’s a recap of what happened this week on the Season 1 finale, Episode 1.8 “Two Sane Guys Doing Normal Things”…
