How powerful is Nathan Fillion, the actor who portrayed Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the short-lived sci-fi television show Firefly?

Powerful enough so that fans take any suggestion to resurrect the show literally despite a highly unlikely success rate. For instance, Fillion’s recent interview with Entertainment Weekly [READ: Attention Browncoats: “˜Firefly’ To Return To Cable; Is This Our Last Chance To Save It?].

To most people mourning the death of a favorite creative project, saying something like “If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet” wouldn’t imply that this could ever reasonably be done.

However, the internet has responded with the launch of HelpNathanBuyFirefly.com, which offers the following plan of action…

Attention Browncoats: ‘Firefly’ To Return To Cable; Is This Our Last Chance To Save It?

As the years have flown by, more and more people have come to realize just how good Joss Whedon‘s prematurely canceled sci-fi/western, Firefly, really was. The faithful fanbase has become an army who have supported and fought for the revival of the show without rest, but with the ever-growing fear that their efforts were futile.

Yes, it is true that a lot of time has passed since the show’s cancellation and the dying breath that was the feature film follow-up, Serenity. Yes, it is true that hope dwindles away more and more with every passing day. But all is not lost…not yet!

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Firefly is returning to basic cable for the first time since 2008. The Science Channel has acquired the rights to the one and only season of the show, and will air them complete with some brand new extras to sweeten the pot and get people to watch. What kind of extras, you ask? Well, rock star physicist and host of the Science Channel’s Sci-Fi Science, Dr. Michio Kaku, will wrap up each episode by discussing the “theoretical science behind the show’s sci-fi concepts.” Yes, this insanely cool. If you’ve never seen an episode of Sci-Fi Science, check it out immediately!

So how can we use this to increase the chances of the resurrection of Firefly becoming a reality, and would star Nathan Fillion even bother coming back if he had the chance? Click over now to find out!

FringeJ.J. Abrams has a good sense of humor despite the news that FOX has moved the Bad Robot-produced Fringe television show from Thursdays to a new Friday-night death slot.

Since the show is already rumored to be in danger of getting canceled, this kind of move could either be really good (lower expectations for ratings) or really bad depending on how many fans migrate over.

The first Fringe episode to air on its new Friday time slot is titled “Firefly” — also the name of Joss Whedon’s short-lived FOX sci-fi series that held that very same time slot.

Han Solo in Carbonite - Firefly

Amy at Geek With Curves has spotted a Han Solo in Carbonite statue in several episodes of the television series Firefly.

Apparently, the props department jokingly added the statue onto the set, as the show’s star Nathan Fillion is a big Star Wars fan, and in a bunch of cases, the statue wasn’t caught and removed before filming.

Visit Amy’s site for more screenshots of the insistences she found. (Good eye, Amy, go geek girl!!!)

Serenity SakeThe $9 t-shirt deal of the day over at Teefury is a Firefly-inspired shirt called, “Serenity Sake” by artist Ian Leino.

The sale at Teefury began at midnight EST (Friday, December 10, 2010) and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it’s over, it’s gone forever.

The t-shirt design is for the fictional product Serenity Sake and includes the spaceship Serenity from the scifi television series Firefly and its big-screen sequel Serenity. The background is similar to the round Serenity logo (and has the same Chinese characters at the bottom). The bottom of the shirt says “SERENITY SAKE With just a touch of Saffon.” (Saffron was a reoccurring character on Firefly). At the bottom right is the flag for the Alliance, along with a warning.

The limited-edition t-shirt is available in Men’s (including 2X) in “sand” color and Women’s sizes in “Natural” color.
