Firefly

A lot of people are just flat sick of hearing about fanboy-favorite Firefly and its seemingly impossible resurrection. Even I, someone who very much loves and misses the show, sometimes hates reading rumors about the show or how it may one day return to us. None-the-less, every once in a while, you just need to buckle down and revisit the topic and where it may currently stand in this completely unfair and tragic hell that Firefly has been prisoner to for many years now.

TV By The Numbers has a great piece from The Nick C Blog on some of the options that exist for just such a thing to happen, as well as whether Joss Whedon‘s Dollhouse getting a second season helps Firefly out.

The most intriguing part of this article, is that the man who wrote it has apparently had plenty of contact with Fox and its people. The main question posed to them is as it always has been: is there any way that Fox would actually do what we hope and pray–yet highly-doubt would ever happen and bring back Firefly? Surprisingly, the answer seems to be “yes,” if it were under the proper circumstances. As they stress in this story, all of the stars of the show are quite busy with their own shows right now, and all of those shows seem to be fairly popular to boot, so the chances of the right circumstances to renew the series coming along are highly-unlikely. So where does this leave us? Well, right back where we’ve been: movies.

‘Firefly’ & ‘Lost’ To Converge On Newly Greenlit ‘V’ TV Remake

V

It appears that some good, hard work went into the pilot for a possible TV remake of the short-running ’80s cult hit V. ABC has now officially given the greenlight for the show to return to our screens in one form or another (explained later) at some point in the near future. For a while, fans of the show were both happy and worried that a pilot was ordered for the remake, but no guarantees were to be had. Now it appears as they have just that.

V is the science fiction story of an alien race known as the Visitors, who attempt to take over Earth. The leader of this race — an alien who is very smart and educated on human cultures — is captured by what will apparently be a pair of Homeland Security agents, and put on trial for her actions.

Firefly‘s Morena Baccarin was the first casting announcement that we heard about (Read: ‘Firefly Companion Morena Baccarin Cast In ‘V’). Morena will be taking on the role of the alien leader mentioned above — a role that should be pretty large and visible for our Firefly friend.

Serenity Blu-ray DVDSerenity
Blu-ray Edition
Directed by Joss Whedon
Starring Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Chiwetel Ejiofor
Universal Home Entertainment
Release date: December 30, 2008

Now, I will admit right off the bat, that I love Joss Whedon‘s work, and I realize that he is a creator that some people love, and other people hate, and it’s hard to find people in the middle. Me, I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer from the beginning, I love his comic book work, and I’m eagerly awaiting the start of his new show Dollhouse. So, yeah, my opinion may be a little biased, but I’m man enough to point out the good and bad points of his work. So, if you’re not a fan of Whedon’s work, what can I say to convince you that this movie is worth your time, and if you are a fan of his work, what can I say to convince you to buy this movie for what may be a THIRD time?

If you don’t know the plot of Serenity by now, you’ve clearly been living in a Sci-Fi deprived cave for the last 5 years, but I’ll re-cap for you anyway. The movie picks up from where the television series Firefly left off; we find the crew of the Firefly-class ship Serenity doing what they do best: taking any job they can to make ends meet. The crew, led by Captain Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), is generally on the run from the Alliance, mostly thanks to two passengers on the ship, Simon (Sean Maher) and River Tam (Summer Glau). River was a government test subject and has been turned into a powerful psychic and a one woman fighting force of extraordinary magnitude. Now the Alliance has sent an Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor) to kill River because of all the secrets she may hold in her head. What follows is a story of loss and the power of beliefs, told in the way that only Joss Whedon can.

Dragon*Con 08: Details on ‘Serenity’ Sequel

Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk from Firefly The Nathan Fillion/Alan Tudyk Q&A session at Dragon*Con 2008 felt more like well scripted banter. These guys are obviously close friends and it showed. The two gave something away to everyone who asked a questions.

One piece of newsworthy information came during the panel session, concerning a question about a sequel to the much acclaimed Serenity movie. A fan asked if Tudyk if his character would be included and possibly come back as a clone (considering the events at the end of the original movie).

Absolutely, I believe Buffy died twice. I think that would be a great thing to do because I would have to go learn all the things that I knew before… If we ever did make another installment of this movie, we would both [Tudyk and Fillion] be in it. I don’t know how he’d [director Joss Whedon] do it but he’s very good at bringing them back from the dead.”
