It’s being reported that 1019 Entertainment’s Ralph Winter and Terry Botwick are developing a modernized re-telling of the tale of Frankenstein based on the series of books by acclaimed author Dean Koontz. The hope is that a new franchise can be born. It will be set in modern New Orleans, where a successful businessman has secretly created a super-human monster named Deucalion. A couple of detectives meet come face-to-face with the monster while investigating a murder one day, and when they investigate a little further, they are lead to a world of manufactured human beings. | Bruce Campbell To Battle Frankenstein In ‘My Name Is Bruce’ Sequel! |
 |

Bruce Campbell is one of the biggest b-movie cult status stars roaming the earth today. He’s not likely to ever win an Oscar, but he is considered to be a god among men to many, and this is something very few Oscar winners can lay claim to. Because of the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness star’s status, people pretty much go nutty for anything they find out he’s doing, whether it be a cameo in the Spider-Man movies, or his own new b-flicks like Bubba Ho-Tep. In 2007, Campbell did a small cult movie called My Name is Bruce. The movie took place in the small town of Gold Lick, Oregon, whose not-so-bright teenagers desecrated a cemetery, accidentally resurrecting the Chinese god of war and protector of the dead, Guan-di. In a desperate effort to stop the undead being, one of the townspeople calls on his hero, Bruce Campbell, to come and save them, just like he does in his movies! Well, Bruce Campbell fans can rejoice yet again. The actor contacted AICN this week with some news regarding a sequel to My Name is Bruce called Bruce vs. Frankenstein, which looks to begin filming in the approaching Fall season. Click over to read Bruce’s amusing letter to we the peoples.

| ‘Bride Of Frankenstein’ Also On Its Way To A Remake |
 |

One of the more exciting remake projects in the ever-growing pile of remakes is the Guillermo del Toro remake of the classic monster movie, Frankenstein — a remake that looks to be slowly moving toward finally getting made with the announcement that del Toro regular Doug Jones is going to be playing the giant resurrected monster man (Read: Ian McKellen & Others Officially Returning In Guillermo del Toro’s “˜The Hobbit’; “˜Frankenstein’ Casting Already Begun?). Now comes news that one of the first ever spinoff/sequels in Bride of Frankenstein (another project that’s been hovering around for a long time) is also moving forward again toward a remake treatment. The movie, from Universal and Imagine Entertainment, is currently in looking into hiring Neil Burger to both write and direct the remake. Burger is best known for his job writing and directing the beautiful Edward Norton magician movie, The Illusionist. If Burger is officially signed, he and his writing partner Dirk Wittenborn would be the latest team to try and bring the movie to the big screen. Before this latest team has been pursued, American Splendor writers Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini had a draft in place which had the Bride character brought to life in modern day New York (surely a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon), and Jacob Estes, who’s working on the Spider-Man spinoff Venom, had a go as well.

| Ian McKellen & Others Officially Returning In Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Hobbit’; ‘Frankenstein’ Casting Already Begun? |
 |

/Film found a great interview that the BBC Radio (click to listen to the full broadcast!) had with Mr. Guillermo del Toro. During this interview, most of the topics associated with del Toro were covered: The obvious being his two-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s The Hobbit; as well as Frankenstein, Hellboy 3, and others. Most importantly is of course The Hobbit. The interviewer asked Guillermo if Andy Serkis would be returning for the role to which he confirmed what we all pretty much knew already: Serkis, Sir Ian McKellen, and Hugo Weaving will all be returning in their Lord of the Rings roles. The director also admitted that one of the most intriguing of the characters from the novel, Smaug, may take fourteen to fifteen months before film-ready; they’ve been working on him for eight months already and are just denting the surface. This attention to detail and quest for perfection now promises amazing things for Smaug. We already know that an announcement is expected soon in regard to who will fill the younger shoes of Bilbo Baggins, so it’s nice to have official confirmation of the returning faces.

| Guillermo del Toro Talks ‘Hobbit’ & ‘Frankenstein’ During a festival from The New Yorker, Guillermo del Toro spoke about The Hobbit and also about Frankenstein, which is one of endless projects he has waiting for him on the other side.
Many questions were asked, but because it’s so far out, del Toro had to remain silent even though he’s very anxious to share. Guillermo is, however, able to discuss how he sees things and what inspires him. With this he explained how he draws inspiration from real life, like for The Hobbit, he looks at things like World War I and draws from that because he believes The Hobbit was born of that generation. He also was also able to discuss some thoughts on Smaug, which is a character many are excited about.
