Each and every week “The Garden State Stud” Henchman21 and “The Pencil-Neck” MK2FAC3 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of September 14, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here. No jokes this week. It’s all about serious business. I want to throw out that a lot of great DC books are coming out this week and I chose one, and Chris chose another. But it’s worth noting that I am really looking forward to Batwoman and Demon Knights, as well. We’re making a real attempt here to put a spotlight on a lot of either the lesser known, lower selling books from publisher, or straight up creator owned works. We’re all excited about this gigantic DC Relaunch, whether we love them or not, it’s exciting. But it’s extremely important for all of you to know that there are other books out there that could really use the attention, so if you’ve never listened to us before, please do so here. It’s a great time for comics, and it’s time for everybody to expand their horizons.

| DC Relaunch: The Dark Side of DC Comics |

DC Comics announced eight more new titles on Tuesday showcasing the darker side of their publishing line. The titles that were announced were a strange assortment of titles that focused on demons, former Vertigo characters, magicians, vampires, and monsters. And as weird as the concept of introducing these characters with ongoing titles is, the creative teams attached to these projects are some of the best names from up-and-comers in the comic books industry. Names like Scott Snyder, Jeff Lemire, Sami Basri, and Joshua Hale Fialkov are only the tip of the iceberg, and if that doesn’t have you excited about these books, then you should probably read some of their work. Also, I’m a big fan of supernatural and crazy comics, so it’s almost like DC plan these announcements just for me. Continuing my ongoing coverage of the DC Relaunch, I’ll list each one of the titles announced with running commentary for each, so let’s get to it!

| ‘Twas Only A Matter Of Time: Paramount To Remake ‘The Monster Squad’
Deadline Hollywood is reporting something that many have expected for a long while now, but it is no less painful to read. That’s right, Paramount Pictures has decided to remake the 1987 childhood classic, The Monster Squad. If the project does indeed happen, Rob Cohen, who was a producer and executive producer on the original movie, already has high hopes to direct the remake. Considering that he’s emotionally attached to the old movie, you would think that he would be an ideal candidate to create a faithful reproduction here, but this might not be the case. Cohen does have plenty of directing experience since then, but with his credits including Dragonheart, The Skulls, The Fast and the Furious, xXx, Stealth, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, most Monster Squad die hards will shudder in fear at the thought.

| Universal Prequel ‘Death Race 2’ Begins Filming In South Africa |

Universal Pictures and director Roel Reiné (The Marine 2, The Lost Tribe) have begun principle photography on Death Race 2, the new prequel to Paul W.S. Anderson’s 2008, Death Race. The film started shooting on February 13th in Cape Town, South Africa and will become a member of Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s DVD Originals line, which just means straight to video. The original was actually a remake of the 1975 film, Death Race 2000. The story is similar to that of Escape from New York, and it takes place in a dystopian future where a prison inmate is offered his freedom if he takes on the persona of Frankenstein — a legendary racer who recently perished — and can win five Death Races. These races are put on by the corporations who own the prisons, and they are aired as a futuristic reality show, which brings more viewers than any other show can ever dream of, and an unbelievable amount of income.
