Frankenstein Alive, Alive!Frankenstein Alive, Alive! #1
Written by Steve Niles
Art by Bernie Wrightson
IDW Publishing
Release Date: May 9, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Steve Niles is a master of horror comics. His ability to craft deeply frightening, personal horror stories is second to none. Niles is able to capture the darkest moments that any person can experience and reduce them to a conversation or a handful of panels. So, when it was announced that he would be working on a Frankenstein comic with IDW, it was not all that surprising. Frankenstein is just as synonymous to horror as Dracula or zombies. The shocking part of Niles’ Frankenstein comic, Frankenstein Alive, Alive #1 came from the content within the comic. Instead writing Frankenstein Alive, Alive #1 as a horror comic, Niles has infused this comic with a story about sorrow, despair, and the agony of being a monster.

DC Change Up (art by Chris Burnham, Ryan Sook and J.G. Jones)

DC Comics announced on Tuesday that a handful of comics in the “dark” line of “The New 52” would have a changing of creative teams. Stormwatch, Justice League Dark, and Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. will all be affected by this shift of comic book writers including Peter Milligan, Jeff Lemire, and Matt Kindt.

First up, let’s take a look at Stormwatch. Stormwatch, in my opinion, has been a sleeper hit that has yet to appeal to a mass audience under the guidance of the incomparable Paul Cornell. And while I’ve loved the series, I can admit that the comic has yet to take off or feel important, so it’s not a surprise to me that veteran Peter Milligan has replaced Cornell to bring a new direction to the series. Cornell announced a couple of months ago that he would be leaving the title, but until now we haven’t learned who his permanent replacement would be. Milligan promises to bring an added intensity to the title that will force the science fiction nature of this book to become even more prevalent and it will certainly breathe new life into the title.

GoD List Banner

Each and every week “Henchman24″ MK2Fac3 and “Dr. McDavid” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of December 14, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

The collective “HenchFac3” attempts to bring you the knowledge of the latest and greatest comic books that are being released each and every week. Now, unfortunately, the situation does not always play out in the manner in which we have anticipated. Sometimes, we pick absolute flops. Sometimes we pick books that don’t even ship that week. And sometimes, we pick the same comic every month. We’re not theoretical physicists, and as much as MK2Fac3 wants you to believe that he’s Batman, he’s totally not. He cannot prepare for any and all eventualities. But more often than not, we pick some really good books. And while our track record does not garner us a perfect score, I think that if you pick up this week’s books, you’ll be more than impressed with our choices. For we are “The HenchFac3,” and this, well this is The GoD List.

Frankenstein

One of my favorite comics out of the DC Relaunch was easily Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.. The comic is about Frankenstein. Yes, that Frankenstein. Well, technically Frankenstein’s monster, but let’s not split hairs. He is an undead monster who works for a special ops organization and is set to be the leader of a special group. And that special group is made up of other Universal Studios-style monsters like a werewolf, a vampire, and a creature that looks like she could be from a black lagoon.
