A live-action movie adaptation of Ghost in the Shell is on the way, as you may have heard, and excitement levels vary from person to person after the controversial casting of Scarlett Johansson in the lead role. But anyone who’s a fan of movies—no matter what their thoughts on this movie happen to be—appreciates the use of practical effects, and Ghost in the Shell has some incredible ones. Mythbusters star Adam Savage and his Tested YouTube channel paid a visit to the special effects masters over at Weta Workshop recently, where he was shown some of the work they created for Ghost in the Shell. More specifically, the robot geisha. A great deal of work went into creating them, and there’s a phenomenal amount of detail to appreciate. This video alone doubles my interest in the movie simply knowing they went this route over digital effects when possible. You can see what Weta built in the video below.

Paramount Pictures has released the newest trailer for their adaptation of the popular manga Ghost in the Shell. The film stars Scarlett Johansson as Major, the lead protagonist, a synthetic human who works as a field commander of Public Security Section 9. Sunday night saw the Atlanta Falcons and the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots face off during Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, and as usual, there were plenty of interesting and highly anticipated commercials that pertained to movies and television that aired during the Big Game as well as during the pre-Game, Halftime, and post-Game shows that we covered throughout the evening. So we’ve collected a bunch of these Super Bowl ads here below for your enjoyment, since there was plenty of new TV and movie footage revealed, and of course, those clever and celebrity-filled product commercials. Not every commercial that aired is included, as some didn’t pertain to our type of entertainment and some I just didn’t enjoy or care about. Instead, I’ve embedded most of the movie and TV spots, along with my favorites from all those car, beer, and soda-type adverts, most of which feature celebrities. Sure, Ghost in the Shell may be wrapped up in a whitewashing controversy, but Rupert Sanders‘ adaptation of the popular manga and anime starring Scarlett Johansson does look good visually. The film takes place in a highly technological futuristic setting, with a special-operations task-force made up of former military officers and police detectives assembled to act as a counter-terrorism force against corrupt officials, companies, and cyber-criminals. Now Paramount has released the new TV spot that will appear during the Super Bowl this Sunday. Check it out below.

Despite the current whitewashing controversy that surrounds Ghost in the Shell, eager fans are very anxious to see if the film can justify the casting, and break the long-running reputation that live-action adaptations of popular animes are always bad. Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for the live-action adaptation of this fan-favorite manga and anime. Starring Scarlett Johansson as Major, the film is set in a futuristic Tokyo, where a security force is tasked with stopping a hacking extremist from destroying a highly advanced cybernetic technology corporation.
