Barack-PRISM

This week, Greg Davies from the BlendoveR podcast and frequent Geeks of Doom contributor (including the Tardisblend podcast) joins us to discuss how the National Security Agency is eavesdropping on our phone calls, e-mails, texts, and all online activity in the name of national security. Are we overreacting, or not acting enough? Also, the NSA may have our data, but they can never patent our DNA. Microsoft does a 180 on their followup to the 360, and Google creates a network of floating balloons…

The Inbetweeners MovieThe Inbetweeners Movie
Starring Simon Bird, Blake Harrison, James Buckley, Joe Thomas, Greg Davies, Emily Head
Directed by Ben Palmer
Released date August 17 2011 (UK)
November 25, 2011 (U.S.)

We all know that moment when our school life is officially over. No more teachers, no more school room politics. Real life, it is usually officially decided, is about to start and things will only get better. Many go on a lads/girls only holiday where he/she will drink/puke and definitely – finally – get laid/syphilis.

This is where we find our four heroes of The Inbetweeners Movie. Simon (Joe Thomas) has been dumped by his girlfriend Carli (Emily Head) and is in desperate need of a change of scenery. So free from the constraints of their respective creepy, obnoxious, sexy, perverted parents and scary, potentially violent teacher (Greg Davies), Simon along with Will (Simon Bird), Jay (James Buckley), and Neil (Blake Harrison) go on a ‘lads only’ holiday to the beautiful party resort of Malia.

Their hotel is a dump – the kind of place where the landlord pulls a dead dog out of the well. There are stains on the mattresses and new lifeforms growing in the fridge. Undeterred, the lads head out on the town looking for, ahem, “pussay.”

CraniumelodyHere at Geeks Of Doom, we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of some of the great music that was released in 1986. It was a big year for music, notably the genre of metal, with major groundbreaking releases coming out from Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and much more.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll be seeing some 1986 music flashback-related posts popping up here at Geeks of Doom, and to help keep the theme going, we decided to join forces with the Social Blend and get some tunes crankin’ in the lead up to some of these upcoming posts.

Social Blend mainly focuses on news and stories posted at Mixx.com, but every couple of months we do a special music edition of the show called CRANIUMELODY. Essentially we try and select some obscure and underrated songs for people to check out, and other times we make selections based on a topic or theme for the show.

Social BlendEvery year, Jay Fowler aka SilentJay74 and myself put together a compilation episode of the Social Blend podcast that focuses on some of the interesting (read: mostly ridiculous) moments from the year. 2010 was an awesome year for Social Blend and there were some great moments from the year.

The Best of Social Blend 2010 is now online at Social-Blend.com and also features a short clip from The Ultimate Geek Movies episode we posted about here recently.

In some ways, the podcast is almost like a “sister site” to Geeks of Doom. We often discuss content and news that’s been posted here, and have also had Dave3, Empress Eve, and Tched on the show as well. On top of that, TARDISblend originally came from Social Blend too.
