| Meet Gwar’s New Female Vocalist Vulvatron
When Gwar vocalist Dave Brockie passed away earlier this year from an accidental heroin overdose at the age of 50, many thought that it might spell the end of the iconic band of self-proclaimed “alien scumdogs.” But just weeks after sending Brockie’s character Oderus Urungus back to the mother ship with a viking funeral at the annual fan appreciation event GwarBQ, the band has debuted their new lineup. Instead of trying to replace Brockie in a direct and obvious way, it seems the band has chosen another route entirely — Gwar now features two lead singers and one of whom is a badass Amazonian alien known as Vulvatron. That’s right, in addition to long-running member Blothar taking over some of the vocal duties, Gwar now features what looks to be one of metal’s strongest female front women.

| GWAR Send Fallen Leader Oderus Urungus Back To The Mothership With Viking Funeral
Gwar frontman Dave Brockie was a larger than life figure to his fans, as was his onstage alter ego Oderus Urungus. So when Brockie died of an accidental overdose of heroin on March 23, 2014, the band never dreamed of attempting to pass off someone else in the Oderus costume. Brockie was laid to rest, eulogized, and mourned at private and public memorials back in the Spring, but the band waited for their annual GwarBQ celebration in their hometown of Richmond, VA, this past weekend to send the scum dog alien that was Oderus Urungus back to the mothership. Fans got to witness a touching tribute to Brockie and his alter ego by friends and fellow musicians, such as Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe, followed by a flaming viking funeral send-off of the Oderus costume. Watch the full video here below.

| Gwar Frontman Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus Has Died |
|
Dave Brockie, lead vocalist of the metal band Gwar who performed with the Oderus Urungus persona, was found dead in his Richmond, VA, home on Sunday, according to Style Weekly, who reported that the cause of death is not known at this time, but police do not suspect foul play. He was 50. The musician’s shocking death is the second recent tragedy to strike Gwar. In 2011, the band members found their guitarist Cory Smoot aka Flattus Maximus dead on their tour bus. In 1984, Brockie founded Gwar, a theatrical thrash metal outfit where its members took on personas – think KISS, but more extreme. The back-story is that the self-proclaimed “Scumdogs of the Universe,” an intergalactic band of chaos warriors, were banished to Earth millions of years ago, now hellbent on destroying the human race and eradicating existence itself. Brockie performed on stage as Oderus Urungus, wearing a humanoid barbarian costume with devil horns and a huge codpiece, and wielding a long sword named “Unt Lick.”
