GWAR: Orgasmageddon #1 cover A Sawyer banner

Back in October, I told you all about a new Kickstarter campaign that involved one of the best theatrical stage bands of all time: GWAR! Since then it has become apparent to everyone, up to and including Dynamite Entertainment, that there is a fan base that is in dire need of sustenance! Which brings us to our current news: Dynamite will publish the GWAR: Orgasmageddon comic book series for the masses!

GWAR: Orgasmageddon #1, which is written by Matt Miner (Toe Tag Riot, Critical Hit) along with the members of GWAR, with and art by Jonathan Brandon Sawyer (Welcome Back, Critical Hit), will hit comic book shops, online retailers, and digital platforms this June.

There’s a video below from Dynamite and GWAR, along with all the covers for issue 1 and more details about this exceptional partnership.

GWAR #1- Matt Maguire Cover

GWAR!

Seriously, if that one word doesn’t make you smile and lean forward to read more, then your whole life has been a sham or you’ve been living under a rock. But not a good rock, more like a Nickelback version. Some folks look to KISS or Alice Cooper as leaders in the world of on-stage antics. However, GWAR beats them hands down, along with almost everyone else, for pure entertainment and shock effect. I first saw them thanks to an ex-roommate of mine, John Stange, a life-long fan. So there we were, watching The Skatenigs open up for what turned out to be one of the best shows I saw in the nineties: GWAR live in concert. With goo-spewing guns that shot a variety of substances (don’t ask) into the crowd and a particularly graphic scene involving the disemboweling of a variety of public figure effigies, their presence rivaled that of my own favorite band, Skinny Puppy! I left drenched and smiling; what more could I possibly want? Well, how about a five-issue comic book series from the shock rock metal monsters themselves? That’s right, GWAR comics! And they have named it GWAR: Orgasmageddon, which didn’t surprise me at all. Plus, in addition to the comics, a plethora of GWAR collectibles have been made available to fans. That’s right, this is a Kickstarter fundraiser where you pledge your hard-earned money and help make the concept a reality and you get cool stuff for doing it!

Ides & Jesse Bergen at Knotfest 2015

On October 24th and 25, 2015, my 12-year-old son Jesse and I made our second annual pilgrimage to Slipknot’s giant, weekend-long heavy metal festival Knotfest. The event once again took place at San Manuel Amphitheater at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, California. This is a recap of our experiences on Saturday, October 24.

The event actually kicks off on Friday night with a show just for those who are fortunate enough to be holding camping or VIP passes. We were not among those folks, so we missed out on Sepultura, The Faceless, and several others. A bit of a bummer, but nothing compared to the gut-wrenching decisions that we would have to make later in the weekend with so many quality bands performing opposite each other on the side stages (more on that in a few…).

In Memoriam: Musicians Who Died In 2014

As 2014 is just about at an end, we take a moment at Geeks Of Doom to remember the fallen musicians who left us this year. A large array of heavyweights, cult heroes, pioneering figures, and sentimental favorites are among those who have left us in a physical sense, but the memories that they made in the past and the ones that each of their fans have in regards to them will never leave.

A list of some of our (and probably yours as well) fallen heroes is below.
