Well, it has happened. If you remember the Kickstarter Spotlight I did back in October of last year, then you’ll understand how excited I am. For you see, folks, GWAR: Orgasmageddon #1 is everything you ever wanted in a depraved, twisted, and disgusting comic. You know you want to know more, so keep on reading and I’ll give you the gory details!
If you are not yet familiar with GWAR, then shame on you! As our alien benefactors who helped spawn entire empires on Earth after having been driven from their home world, they deserve our respect (and fear). Bestowing upon us their unholy and blasphemous tunes is about as close to benevolent as they get, so beware. Our story this time through starts at the end. The end of a concert, that is. No sooner have they ended the show than Sawborg Destructo, one of their most hated enemies, appears, attempting to recruit them for universal domination. The caveat here is that they are under threat of death if the decline! So, of course they pick a fight. What else would you expect from The Scumdogs Of Universe?
In a heroic turn of events, even more members of GWAR stand up and defy the Destructo. But tragically, after defeating the first enemy, an even bigger asshole…er…adversary appears and the battle ceases to be a simple one. For you see, reader, this creature known as Mr. Perfect murdered the former leader of GWAR. He is, however, a master of time and space and banishes our anti-heroes to a multitude of eras, giving them no time to react!
We watch as our glorious band of aliens and monsters struggle to survive ancient Japan, The War of Independence, and more. Read as history is rewritten or exposed, creating rifts and time aberrations that rival that of any story ever. Plus, they travel via The Meat Rocket that has a certain phallic feel and look to it. Not that I touched it, because that would be nasty. *shudders*
Leaving nothing to chance, the creative team behind this comic tried desperately to offend everyone equally. That is politically correct, right? GWAR’s Matt Maguire and Matt Miner do their very best, no doubt about it. Jonathon Brandon Sawyer and Maguire supply some serviceable art that leans heavily on comical style renderings, but to be honest, it fits quite well with this comic. I had a blast reading this obviously not safe for work or children comic. Let me say that again: this is for adults only, folks. I would bet money that my old roommate John already has his on order or in his hand. What about you?
Side note: there are a couple of short stories after the primary one. The first features the GWAR spin-off band X-Cops and seems pretty focused on Zipper Pig, one of the vocalists from the side project. The second is more of a silly little story featuring the GWAR slaves having a literal pissing contest. Limited to two to four pages each, these are just extras that long time fans will enjoy hands down.
From the depths of outer space to the frozen wasteland of Antarctica, punk rock and heavy metal’s most shocking and blasphemous band of intergalactic blood spewing alien monsters has returned to kill everything and respect nothing in the pages of GWAR: Orgasmageddon! Banished to the past by the cold and calculating Mr. Perfect, the heroes of GWAR trample through time like a deranged Bill and Ted on bath salts – antics ensue as they stomp and smash and shape human history to what we accept as our current reality. Co-written by GWAR themselves and Matt Miner (Toe Tag Riot, Critical Hit), GWAR: Orgasmageddon is a love letter to comics, grindhouse movies, and heavy metal – sure to appeal to the most die-hard fan and the comics fanboy/fangirl intrigued by the prospect of social awareness drowned in geysers of blood and alien goo.
