On that journey, she got lost in The Phantom Zone. Now the younger cousin, HE helps her. She is adopted into a family including parents (Dean Cain and Helen Slater), and older sister Alex (Chyler Leigh). James Olsen (Mechad Brooks) is sent by Superman to watch out for Kara, and she outs herself to her friend, Winn (Jeremy Jordan), who makes her costume. Kara decides to give in to her legacy, after saving a doomed plane that her sister was on, and liking that heroic feeling. Supergirl, the new and highly anticipated show from Arrow creators Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti, and Ali Adler, flies in tonight on CBS. The pilot episode quickly tells the origin story of Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), cousin of you-know-who. She’s the older cousin, tasked with watching over Kal-El, but got caught up in The Phantom Zone. By the time her ship crashed to Earth, she reverted to younger cousin. There’s a lot of “Him” floating around. They never really say his name, and we only catch a silhouetted glimpse of “Him.” Much like her now older cousin, she kept her powers hidden. Only her sister Alex (Chyler Leigh), and her parents (Super-Geek alert! Dean Cain and Helen Slater) know (we think). The rest of the pilot is about her “coming out.”
So how is it? Spoilers ahead!

‘Supergirl’ Series Casts “Super” Vets Dean Cain and Helen Slater

Dean Cain and Helen Slater have signed up for CBS’s Supergirl series, according to Variety. What roles they will play is not part of the scoop, but stay tuned.
These two have a super-heroic history. Slater played the title character in Supergirl, the 1984 movie also starring Faye Dunaway and Peter O’Toole, which was not a box office success. Slater returned to the DC universe to play Lara-El, Superman’s (Tom Welling) biological mother for three episodes of the television series Smallville. Cain spent four seasons as Superman to Teri Hatcher’s Lois Lane, in the 1990s television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. He also guested on Smallville for the “Cure” episode as Dr. Curtis Cox.
