Last week on Supergirl, Kara (Melissa Benoist) took on more than she could chew, babysitting for Cat’s (Calista Flockhart) son, while also saving the day as Supergirl. The boy is really shy. has a crush on Supergirl, and gets caught up in the train bomb scare. Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) asks Kara for James (Mechad Brooks) advice. The big bad of the episode were 2 bombs – one at Maxwell Lord’s (Peter Facinelli) train launch, and the other at an airport. Kara chooses the train because of Cat’s son, and sends the DEO to the airport. James also runs to the airport because that’s where Lucy went. Maxwell Lord seems to be behind some of the nefariousness.

Last week’s Supergirl was switched with this week’s, in light of the Paris attacks, which was considerate. However, it gave us a few spoilers, but not any horribly crucial ones. The main one is that James Olsen and Lucy Lane (Mechad Brooks and Jenna Dewan-Tatum) were already back together in this episode, to the disappointment of Kara (Melissa Benoist) and James. So “Livewire” focused on one of Cat’s (Calista Flockhart) disgruntled employess, who got demoted to weather duty, and then struck by lightning via a Supergirl conduit. It was also the Thanksgiving episode which found foster mom Helen Slater (I don’t know why emphasizing foster mom bothered me), Alex (Chyler Leigh), Kara, and Winn (Jeremy Jordan) at a tense family dinner. It ends up okay though, with the exception of the reveal that Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) was involved in Alex’s dad’s disappearance.

Last week on Supergirl, we were formerly introduced to Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli), a rich genius. I can’t tell if he is a good guy or a bad one. He gets kidnapped by Reactron, Superman’s foe, who comes after Kara (Melissa Benoist) after her exclusive interview with Cat (Calista Flockhart). Kara gets in over her head, and has to be saved by her cousin, thanks to James (Mechad Brooks) calling for help. Cat throws a magazine launch party that gets crashed by Reactron, of course. But Supergirl saves the day, wih some help from Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) and the DEO. James’s ex, Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) comes to work for CatCo.

Last week on Supergirl, Kara (Melissa Benoist) learned a lesson and taught a lesson. Her sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) taught her that she needs to learn to fight if she was going to fight people stronger than she was. She had to be smarter about it. She demonstrated this using Kryptonite. Cat (Calista Flockhart) threatened James’s (Mehcad Brooks) job if he did not get her an exclusive interview with Supergirl. Cat dispenses some good advice to Kara. And Kara, in turn, helps James figure out that he can be his own man, and that they were all “stronger together.” Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and James find out that the other knows. Kara’s Aunt Astra (Laura Benanti) tries to get her niece to join her, but is prepared to destroy her if necessary of she gets in her way. Alex gives Kara the gift of her own “Fortress of Solitude.” And Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) has evil red eyes.

Last week on Supergirl, we got a faster-than-a-speeding-bullet backstory, which included Superman’s older cousin Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), sent to Earth to protect him. On that journey, she got lost in The Phantom Zone. Now the younger cousin, HE helps her. She is adopted into a family including parents (Dean Cain and Helen Slater), and older sister Alex (Chyler Leigh). Kara works as an assistant to Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) who runs CatCo, a media giant. James Olsen (Mechad Brooks) is sent by Superman to watch out for Kara, and she outs herself to her friend, Winn (Jeremy Jordan), who makes her costume. Kara decides to give in to her legacy, after saving a doomed plane that her sister was on, and liking that heroic feeling. She discovers her sister is part of a covert government team, the DEO, who is tracking the criminals that escaped from The Phantom Zone along with Kara. The criminals all want revenge on their jailor’s daughter.
