 Fantastic Mr. Fox
Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo
Directed by Wes Anderson
Starring George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Wallace Wolodarsky, Jason Schwartzman, Eric Chase Anderson
20th Century Fox
Blu-ray/DVD Release Date: March 23, 2010
I’ve never been a big Wes Anderson fan. The films I have seen from the filmmaker have been too quirky for my tastes, the kind of quirk that crosses the line between adorable and just plain weird. Anderson definitely makes the kinds of films where I would deem it mandatory to find out precisely what type of experience you’re in for before seeing them, because if you don’t you could end up thinking someone switched films on you leaving you lost and bewildered. Keeping that in mind, I think Fantastic Mr. Fox just might be my favorite Wes Anderson film to date. Based on the children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl, the story is about Mr. Fox (George Clooney) and how he outwits his farmer neighbors, stealing their food right from under their noses. Anderson stated that he signed on because Roald Dahl was one of his heroes, so he had a strong personal connection in making the film. I’ve not had the pleasure of reading the book, but while doing some research I learned that the story the book covers would amount to the second act of the film. New scenes were apparently added by Anderson to serve for the film’s beginning and end.

| Watch Now: ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’ Teaser Trailer |
 |
By Seaberry The teaser trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is now online.
Watch it here below! The film, directed by Edgar Wright, is based on the popular Oni Press comic book series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, and stars Michael Cera in the title role with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as his love interest Ramona. Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, and Jason Schwartzman also star. This teaser trailer is the most awesome thing that I have seen in a long time. If this trailer is any indication, this is a very faithful adaptation, from Ramona’s hair color to actually hearing the sound effects from the comic book. From this footage it looks like the comic book come to life. Michael Cera actually looks the part, and I had my doubts about him up until the moment I started watching this trailer. Mary Elizabeth Winstead clearly has a handle on the character of Ramona Flowers, and her evil ex-boyfriends look perfect. Honestly, it looks even better than I hoped it would. I need this movie yesterday. I will be counting the days until August. Scott’s catchphrase is “I gotta believe”! Watch this trailer and you WILL believe, my friends, you will believe.

| Geek Peek: New Images From ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’ |
 |

Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) has released plenty of teasing behind the scenes images from his upcoming adaptation of the popular Bryan Lee O’Malley graphic novel Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, but now you can check out two brand new official images from the film. The first image is of the film’s cast standing next to each other while the other image is rather trippy and shows what appears to be someone running sideways with an awesome flaming sword. Both images are sure to extract pure elation from all of the Scott Pilgrim fans who have yet to get a peek at their favorite comic come to life. While I could summarize the basic premise here, it’s probably best said by the official Scott Pilgrim website: Scott Pilgrim is 23 years old, living in the big city with his gay roommate, just trying to get by in this crazy world. He’s in a band. He’s lazy. He likes video games. Scott Pilgrim likes the new girl in town, Ramona Flowers, but to win her heart, he has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. Seven! Evil! Ex! Boyfriends! Lucas has muscles! Todd plays bass with his psychic powers! The Twins are twins! Matthew Patel is an Indian guy! AND MORE! Click on over to the other side to check out these two new images!

Fantastic Mr. Fox
Directed by Wes Anderson
Voiced by George Clooney, Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Wallace Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Owen Wilson, Jarvis Cocker
Release date: November 25, 2009
My relationship with the movies of Wes Anderson can best be described as strained, to say the least. I have a sympathetic ear for the dysfunction he makes his characters wallow in each movie, but aren’t they all really just singing the same song?; that a family, no matter how damaged and quirky, can get through anything as long as they stick together? He has a definitive style, but more and more I get the impression that he is really telling a variation of the same story and trying to hide it by out-weirding the last one. Considering it to be my loudest objection to his movies, I find it curious that one of the biggest compliments I can give Fantastic Mr. Fox is that it feels like a Wes Anderson movie. The children’s novel by Roald Dahl that the movie is based on is pretty straightforward. Mr. Fox steals chickens, turkeys, and cider from three wealthy nearby farmers. The farmers band together to try to ambush and kill him. He escapes with his family but ends up trapped and starving. After a spell he hatches a plan to create an underground safe haven and steal from them again out from under their noses while they wait for him to emerge.

The first trailer for Wes Anderson‘s attempt at a stop-motion styled movie in The Fantastic Mr. Fox has been released by 20th Century Fox. It tells the story of a fox who sneaks out at night to steal animals like chickens and turkeys from three rich and mean farmers. Mr. Fox steals the animals in order to provide food for his family, but it doesn’t take long before the three farmers have had enough and set off on multiple attempts to kill Mr. Fox and stop him from stealing their animals. Anderson initially set off to make this movie along with Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas) in 2004, but things didn’t work out and Selick moved on to direct Coraline.
