NYCC 2015: Kevin Smith

Filmmaker Kevin Smith posted to his social media accounts today that he survived a “massive” heart attack last night after his stand-up performance at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA.

The 47-year-old filmmaker, best known for writing and directing Clerks and Chasing Amy, as well as starring in said films as the latter part of stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob, wrote that he went to the hospital after feeling ill after the first of two planned shows for the night. After cancelling his second performance to seek medical treatment, Smith said that the doctors discovered that he had had a “massive heart attack” with 100% blockage of the LAD artery, aka “the Widow-Maker.”

See below to read Smith’s full Facebook post, where he describes his ordeal and gives his thoughts about this near-death experience.

Jay and Silent Bob

The last four movies that Kevin Smith has worked on as a director—Red State, Tusk, Holidays, and most recently Yoga Hosers—have all been horror movies or have had horror elements. Much different from the comedies and dramedies set in the “View Askewniverse” he’s best known for, such as Clerks, Mallrats, and Dogma. He’s also been involved in a couple of TV shows on The CW recently, directing a couple of episodes of both The Flash and Supergirl.

There’s been talk here and there of returning to his Askewniverse again for Clerks III, a world he hasn’t visited since 2006’s Clerks II. But now Smith has revealed that Clerks III is dead and he’s turned his attention to the most familiar part of the Askewniverse, Jay and Silent Bob, who he’s written a new movie for. Find out what it’s about below.

9 Of The Most Entertaining Cameos In Movie History!

Jack Black

What’s more fun than a well-placed cameo? Those brief appearances by a well-known actor or character that has relations to the title their appearing in can really brighten a movie and excite the fans who aren’t expecting them.

In honor of the cameo, I’ve decided to compile a list of cameos that just flat have entertained me over the years. Keep in mind, these aren’t necessarily the best cameos ever done; I know there’s some crazy good ones like the Stooges in It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and so on. No, these are some of the most amusing cameos that brought a little smile to my (and surely many others) face or made people keel over laughing. Some are just classic and some are complete nostalgia, but one thing is for sure… all are a damn good time.

Oh, and I don’t want to hear anything about Neil Patrick Harris from Harold & Kumar. While hilarious, he was playing himself as a full character. You can’t cameo as one of the main parts in TWO movies, even if you are playing yourself.

In some cases there’s a little video included to remind yourself how good these are, so if you enjoy a good cameo like we do, please continue reading to check out 9 of the Most Entertaining Cameos in Movie History!
