Back in 2017 when Kevin Smith shared that he had written a sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, he also mentioned that the long discussed Clerks III was dead due to one of the four leads opting out. It was eventually revealed that the lead who opted out was Jeff Anderson, who played Randal Graves in the first two movies.

But now, with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot set to release soon, Smith has announced that Clerks III is back from the dead with the cast, including Anderson, set to return. Smith made the announcement on social media, which you can see below.

The last four movies that Kevin Smith has worked on as a director—Red State, Tusk, Holidays, and most recently Yoga Hosers—have all been horror movies or have had horror elements. Much different from the comedies and dramedies set in the “View Askewniverse” he’s best known for, such as Clerks, Mallrats, and Dogma. He’s also been involved in a couple of TV shows on The CW recently, directing a couple of episodes of both The Flash and Supergirl.

There’s been talk here and there of returning to his Askewniverse again for Clerks III, a world he hasn’t visited since 2006’s Clerks II. But now Smith has revealed that Clerks III is dead and he’s turned his attention to the most familiar part of the Askewniverse, Jay and Silent Bob, who he’s written a new movie for. Is a sequel to the 1995 comedy favorite Mallrats now in our future? It’s not yet known for sure, but director Kevin Smith has teased the possibility of it happening eventually.

Smith took the Twitter to share what his current schedule of movies to make looks like—a mixture of comedies and the horror he’s been making more lately—including Clerks III, Hit Somebody, and Moose Jaws before finally dropping the tiny Mallrats 2 tease.

As most of you may have heard by now, Kevin Smith had planned to end his directing career with the hockey movie Hit Somebody. Then we found out that Hit Somebody would now become a miniseries, and that Clerks III would fittingly become his final directorial effort.

Now Smith has added to that news, sharing that he hopes to have the trilogy-maker ready for a 2014 release—for the 20th anniversary of the release of his first directorial effort, Clerks, back in 1994—and that he may even be willing to make the third film for around the same price as the original…a whopping $27,000.

Kevin Smith‘s long-awaited hockey comedy Hit Somebody is going through some drastic changes, which could work out for some Clerks fans. Last year, Smith announced that Hit Somebody would his final film and that it would be a two-parter. The first half would follow a character learning how to play hockey in Canada, while the latter half would center on his career as a professional hockey player. Now that has all changed.

After making some alterations to Hit Somebody, which resulted in it being one single entity, Smith realized that it wouldn’t be the film he wanted it to be. That’s where Jason Mewes inspired him to turn Hit Somebody into a miniseries. And Smith did just that. The filmmaker made the announcement on his official twitter account where he said that a network had picked up the miniseries. Shortly after he also announced that because of the Hit Somebody shift, Clerks III would be his final directorial effort.
