Kolchak: The Night Stalker 50th Anniversary Graphic Novel cover banner

The cult monster-hunting reporter returns for Moonstone Books’ upcoming Kickstarter campaign

Moonstone Books will publish a graphic novel anthology for the 50th anniversary of Kolchak: The Night Stalker, which began in 1972 as a TV movie starring Darren McGavin as the title monster-hunting reporter and later a TV series that became a cult classic that famously inspired X-Files creator Chris Carter.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker 50th Anniversary Graphic Novel will contain 10 all-new contributions from master storytellers such as Jonathan Maberry (V-Wars), Peter David (The Incredible Hulk), Kim Newman (Anno Dracula), and more, with an introduction by Richard Christian Matheson, the bestselling horror writer and son of Richard Matheson, who penned the original TV movie and its TV movie sequel The Night Strangler. An essay on the 50th anniversary from Mark Dawidziak, the author of The Nightstalker Companion, will be included, along with a retrospective of Moonstone Book’s massive Kolchak publication history from publisher Joe Gentile.

Welcome to the superhero team with the most improbable acronym in comic history. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, Vol. 1 is a reimaging of the original 1960s comic of the same name by Wally Wood and Len Brown.

I’m not sure if Andrea Di Vito just erased the word balloons of the classic issues or exactly captured the look and feel of the original ’60s run. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents gives every impression, from the frame set-ups to the campy coloring of the team uniforms, that it is a painstakingly crafted throwback.

DC Universe Present #6

DC Comics announced today that there would be a brand new creative team and story arc for the DC Universe Presents title starting with issue #6.

The interesting thing about DC Universe Presents, which is currently focusing on the Paul Jenkins-scripted and Bernard Chang-drawn Deadman story, is that with each arc comes new characters throughout the DC Universe. So, starting with DC Universe Presents #6, Dan DiDio (DC Co-publisher and Co-writer of O.M.A.C. with Keith Giffen) and Jerry Ordway will be taking over the series for a Challengers of the Unknown revival, while Ryan Sook is still on covers. The story details are obviously limited at this point, but from what we do know about previous incarnations of The Challengers is that it will be a team of explorers in the midst of a bizarre and rich science fiction world.
