Would you watch Taskmaster and Preacher movies?
The A-Team director Joe Carnahan certainly hopes so. Carnahan recently spoke to Superhero Hype about the Taskmaster adaptation he was working on with The A-Team producer Alex Young. Taskmaster is a Marvel Comics villain who first appeared in 1980 in Avengers #195, and is a character that Carnahan considers to be “below the radar.” “Originally I wanted to do ‘Juggernaut’ ’cause I had a really good take on that, and then ‘Taskmaster’ was something we talked about, and I haven’t discussed it with [Young] for ages, but I would love to get back in. I love the idea of a guy with photographic reflexes, he can see something and repeat it, I thought that was such a cool idea.”

| Watch Now: ‘The A-Team’ Trailer #2 A new trailer for The A-Team, the big-screen adaptation of the popular 1980s television show, is now online.
Watch it here below. Joe Carnahan directed the film, which has, what I think, is a spot-on cast for the members of the A-Team: Liam Neeson as team leader John “Hannibal” Smith; Bradley Cooper as Templeton “Face” Peck; Sharlto Copley as “Howling Mad” Murdoch; and former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as B.A. Baracus. Now, we all know how wrong these TV to film jumps can be — just take a look at Miami Vice — but judging by the two trailers released for this The A-Team movie, it looks like it’s a faithful adaptation of the TV show. As far as 80s TV shows go, I think The A-Team was top of the crop, so I’m really hoping this movie does it justice.

Are you eagerly anticipating the upcoming summer movie event The A-Team? Can’t wait until the film hits theaters June 11, 2010? Well I’ve got good news for you!
IDW Publishing is partnering with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox Licensing) to launch two A-Team comic book series this March, entitled A-Team: Shotgun Wedding and A-Team: War Stories. Each comic will be an original story written and illustrated by some of the industry’s biggest names. Each series will be available as single issues in March and April, and collected into individual graphic novels in May and will give fans an in-depth look at the upcoming action-adventure film from Twentieth Century Fox, which will be released in theaters June 11, 2010. Tom Waltz (editor and co-writer on the comic) had this to say: “Like many, I was a huge fan of the original A-Team television series in the 80’s. I’m happy to report, after reading the new movie script, the updated A-Team movie has all the wit, swagger and kick-ass action of the original series, but tells a story much bigger than was possible on the show. For our comics, we’ve worked directly with the filmmakers to build a solidly action-packed foundation for a new generation of A-Team fans.”

Direct-to-video sequels tend to put me ill at ease, and with good reason. More often than not these movies are cynical, cheapjack attempts by cash-strapped studios to squeeze every possible nickel out of even their most modest theatrical successes. Next to Walt Disney Pictures no other studio has been to the DTV sequel well more times than Universal Pictures, as their numerous quickie follow-ups to The Land Before Time, Darkman, Tremors, and American Pie have shown. I have nothing against movies bypassing cinemas and going direct to video store shelves; in the past many fine films, some much better than anything Hollywood has forced upon us, have made their premiere exclusively at our local Blockbuster Video or in the Redbox kiosk in front of the neighborhood Wal-Mart often because they”˜re the kind of movies that cannot be easily marketed into the moviegoer conscience like the cookie cutter fare that clogs the multiplex screens week in and week out. Plus every so often a rare sequel comes along that proves to be a cut above to the original (see The Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, and Hostel Part II). But sequels to moderately profitable theatrical releases are as a rule made on budgets a fraction of what the originals were made for, and customarily they’re made without the participation of the filmmakers and cast that made the originals great (because they can”˜t be afforded). Leave it to Joe Carnahan, a firebrand filmmaking talent who makes his best movies outside the creative dead zone of Tinseltown, to accept the challenge of making a direct-to-video sequel the right way.

| Watch Now: First Trailer For ‘The A-Team’ Movie Is Here |

The very first trailer for Joe Carnahan‘s (Smokin’ Aces) theatrical version of popular TV show The A-Team has found its way online. Only one official image had been released for the this movie so far, which makes this trailer everyone’s first really good look at the movie. As far as judging books by their cover goes, this is one of those titles we kind of laughed at when hearing it would become a movie. This is because we only know it in its cheesy ’80s form, and the first thing that we think of is Mr. T. Thankfully, The A-Team is a show that is well-suited for an update, and most of it transfers to modern styles with ease. The trailer makes the movie look like a lot of fun. It also makes the movie look like it’s directed by Michael Bay, but it definitely looks like it could be great action movie. Be sure to head over to the other side and check out the trailer for yourselves. Share your thoughts in the comments!
