The first full trailer for James Gunn‘s Super is now online. Check out the trailer here below. The film stars Rainn Wilson as Frank D’Arbo, an ordinary man who transforms himself into a crimefighting superhero called Crimson Bolt after his wife (Liv Tyler) leaves him for a drug dealer (Kevin Bacon). While not the best superhero, Frank has at least one person who believes in him — a young girl named Libby (Ellen Page) who becomes his “kid sidekick” Boltie. Nathan Fillion also stars as the superhero The Holy Avenger.

| SDCC 2010: James Gunn’s ‘Super’ Panel With Nathan Fillion, Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page & More!
Another highly entertaining panel that was held during San Diego Comic Con 2010 was the one for James Gunn‘s hero movie, Super. Gunn is best known as the director of the wonderful horror-comedy Slither, and he also wrote the screenplays for Scooby-Doo and Dawn of the Dead.
Super had one of the better panel lineups, bringing out Gunn, stars Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Nathan Fillion, Liv Tyler, Michael Rooker, and producers Ted Hope and Miranda Bailey. The movie sounds like it’s along the same lines as Kick-Ass where people without superpowers fight evil. In it, Wilson plays the lead character, who calls himself the Crimson Bolt. He has no powers, but he does have a wrench he likes to use in confrontational situations. Looking at the cast and concept, you would think this was primed for gut-busting humor, but apparently it’s a very dark comedy with a lot of dramatic situations.

The Strangers
Unrated Edition
Directed by Bryan Bertino
Starring Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman
Universal Home Entertainment
Release date:
Two Mormon boys riding their bikes through an eerily isolated neighborhood handing out religious pamphlets chance upon a house with its front door hanging open suspended in place by the occasional wind. Wanting to satisfy their curiosity the boys decide to take a peek inside the house, a decision they will certainly come to regret in the years to come for what their prying eyes and immature minds fall upon will forever scar their adolescent souls. Before them they bear witness to a literal house of horrors their parents never prepared them for: several dead bodies bearing traces of chilling brutality lay sprawled on the floors of the hallway and living room; a butcher knife soaked in blood sitting on a plain white kitchen countertop; a spent shotgun resting all by its lonesome on a floor like it never stood a chance; and the most telling and haunting image of all — lovely red rose petals strewn about the house in a display of love that was savagely displaced by the complete absence of any emotion over the course of one horrifying night. This is the same image that will come back to us at the end. It is a nightmare from which we can never fully awake. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world of The Strangers.

Incredible Hulk
Blu-ray Edition
Directed by Louis Leterrier
Starring Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt
Universal Home Entertainment
Release date: October 21, 2008
I was never one to bad mouth Ang Lee’s Hulk film from a few years back, at least the first two thirds of it (I’m not a fan of the film’s ending), but I know a lot of people hated it, and I can understand that. So, with so much dislike going around, Marvel decided to pretend that the earlier film never happened, and create the second movie, The Incredible Hulk, in their plan to bring the grand Marvel Universe into theaters. Breaking away from serious auteur Lee, Marvel went with director Louis Leterrier, most famous for directing Transporter 2, not exactly the most thought provoking of films. While this may not be as deep a character study as Lee’s film was, Leterrier does manage to make at least an interesting film. This is more of a nuts and bolts plot driven film, with the famous Dr. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) on the run from General “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt). However, Ross is unable to capture Banner, so he enlists the help of elite soldier Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), but when Blonsky isn’t up to the task, he gets a little boost in the form of the super-soldier serum. But, of course that eventually goes horribly wrong, and Blonsky turns into the Abomination, leading to a great battle between the Hulk and the Abomination in the middle of Harlem. All the actors in the film do a decent job, although Liv Tyler is a bit of a letdown as Betty Ross, but Edward Norton is fantastic as Bruce Banner, and really brings a unique feel to it.
