A clever YouTube user going by the handle ChiefBrodyRules (yes, he does) has taken this year’s Marvel-ous superhero blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier and reconfigured it into an awesome fan trailer done in the style of a video preview for a 1980’s Cannon Films action flick.

It’s been no secret since the release of Live Free or Die Hard, the fourth installment in the franchise, that star Bruce Willis was planning on making more at some point in the future.

Movement has been speeding up lately on what’s simply being called Die Hard 5 at the moment, and now the flick’s director has been chosen by 20th Century Fox and Willis. Deadline is reporting that Noam Murro will be taking the wheel on the project, which could become his third feature film.

Murro has only one completed credit to his name — 2008’s Smart People, which starred Ellen Page, Dennis Quaid, Thomas Hayden Church, and Sarah Jessica Parker — and has another currently in production called Hateship, Friendship, Courtship. These aren’t the credits of someone you would see directing a Die Hard movie, but these movies are also not what stood out to those who hired Murro — it was his work on some popular live-action Halo shorts made for the release of Halo: Reach that caught eyes and won him the job. The remake of one of the most popular horror movies of all time, John Carpenter‘s The Thing, is moving forward, and it now has officially cast its two lead star in Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton.

Winstead will be playing a “Ph.D. candidate” who joins the Norwegian team after they discover an alien craft frozen solid in the ice. Edgerton will be playing a mercenary helicopter pilot, which would be the Kurt Russell role of the remake. The duo will eventually join up when a strange creature breaks free and starts killing people.

The movie is directed by Matthijs Van Heijningen, a long-time producer making his directorial debut. The screenplay is where some strong excitement can be discovered; it was written by Battlestar Galactica and Caprica god Ronald D. Moore, as well as Eric Heisserer, who wrote the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake script.

We haven’t heard too much about the progress of turning the ultra-popular video game Gears of War into a major motion picture since hearing that Len Wiseman would be the man directing the project. Recently, Making Of had the chance to have a little chat with producer Wyck Godfrey, who was able to share a tiny little bit of information on where the film may be heading, including a decision which could make or break the project before it even begins.

Godfrey explained that they were working with Wiseman and that they had spoken with the gentlemen over at Epic Games who developed the series. It would appear that their big hurdle right now is whether they should jump right into the madness that we saw in the games, or if it would be better for them to do something of an origins story and show what things were like before the war with the Locust began.
